2014 Global Learning XPRIZE ($15 million) Competition for developing New Learning Solutions

Application Deadline: March 15 2015

The challenge:  Develop new learning solutions to empower children and communities around the world.

There are 57 million children around the world who have no access to any kind of primary school. In addition, 250 million kids who have some schooling do not learn basic literacy and numeracy. An estimated 250 million children around the world cannot read, write, or demonstrate basic arithmetic skills. Many of these children are in developing countries without regular access to quality schools or teachers.

In fact, UNESCO estimates that the world will need 1.6 million more teachers globally by 2015.  And that number is set to double by 2030.

The $15 million Global Learning XPRIZE is a competition that challenges teams from around the world to develop open source scalable software solution that will enable children in developing countries to teach themselves basic reading, writing and arithmetic.

The Global Learning XPRIZE is a $15 million competition that will reward registered competitors (“Team”) whose technology results in the greatest levels of learning achievement in reading, writing and arithmetic by children with little or no access to quality education.

XPRIZE is looking to challenge the world to develop open source software that can make a powerful contribution toward creating dynamic learning environments accessible to all children, no matter where they live or their station in life, XPRiZE believes that children will not be passive consumers of knowledge, but rather active participants in a learning community.

The Global Learning XPRIZE envisions a future in which children anywhere in the world can become not merely consumers but also global producers of knowledge
