2014 TAHMO Sensor Design Competition

Application Deadline: July 1st 2014

The TAHMO Sensor Design Competition, aimed specifically at the ECOWAS region. invite students, scholars, engineers and other tech-enthusiasts from ECOWAS-countries to join the TAHMO Sensor Design Competition.

The objective of the TAHMO Sensor Design Competition is to design innovative sensors that measure a weather or hydrological variable and are both inexpensive and robust. As well as resilient, low-maintenance and cost effective. For the design specifics please visit TAHMO.org.

The TAHMO project
Delft University of Technology and Oregon State University are running the Trans-African Hydro-Meteorological Observatory (TAHMO) project. TAHMO’s aim is to design and build a dense network of 20,000 weather stations in Africa. The revolutionary low-cost, robust cell-phone based stations will aid in monitoring Africa’s environment; a necessity if the continent’s resources are to be optimally used. In order to do so, we need your help!

Competition
We ask you to come up with an innovative design for a sensor. This year the competition will be organized together with the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Nigeria. Winners of the competition will be invited to Akure for a multiple day workshop to build, test, and integrate the designs.

IMPORTANT DATA
•       Please send in your design before July 1st, 2014
•       Winning teams will be invited for the workshop in Akure on August 4th – 8th, 2014
