2015 Global Dialogue Story-Creating Contest (USD 6,000+ in Prizes)

Submission Deadline: March 31st 2015

You are invited to come up with an original idea for a short film about HIV/AIDS, sexuality, violence against girls or women, or drugs, alcohol and sex. You can create a fictional story or share a true story that you have experienced. The best ideas will be adapted by professionals and turned into films by some of world’s greatest directors and young cinema talents.

In the Global Dialogues contests, young people across the world speak out by creating stories for short films about issues such as HIV/AIDS, sexuality, violence against women, or drugs, alcohol and sex.

The contests are a unique opportunity for young people to break the ice on taboo subjects and share their views with others – including members of their own family – often for the first time in their lives.

Participants create fictional stories or tell true stories that they have experienced and want people to know about. All the stories are studied by juries who not only select the winners, but also gain a much deeper understanding of young people’s thoughts and feelings.

The Global Dialogues films, each proudly displaying the young authors’ names, are viewed by over 200,000,000 people every year online and on TV.

Eligibility Requirements:
  • The Global Dialogues contest is open to ALL young people WORLDWIDE who will be under the age of 25 on 31 March 2015. (If you are older than that, you may participate by working in a team led by someone who is under 25.)

The contest entries will be examined by a series of juries. There will be 20 winners of the
international contest. Each of these winners or winning teams will receive a cash prize of US$125 , as well as the possibility of having a film based on their idea made and shown on TV and the Web.

at the address they give on their Participant Questionnaire. Only one prize will be given to each winning team. The juries’ decisions are final
  • Honorable Mention: US$125 (20 prizes)

How to participate?

It’s up to you to decide what form your idea will take. Most participants in Global Dialogues contests write short stories, but you can also send in a video, a theatre piece, a comic strip, a song, poem… anything is possible as long as the text is in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Kiswahili, Hindi, Mandarin, Russian, Bahasa Indonesia or German.

If you write a story, it may be up to 10 pages long (maximum!). Recorded songs or videos may not be longer than 10 minutes.

As you create your idea, please talk to organizations or individuals in your community who can provide you with good information on the contest issues, or visit credible sources of information online.

You can take part alone or in a team. Working in a team has its advantages. It’s a great opportunity to talk about the issues together and to learn what other people think and feel. Each team must choose a leader.

Each participant (or the team leader) must fill in the Participant Questionnaire. So, to participate in the contest, you must provide two things: your contest entry and your completed Questionnaire.
