2015 Global Dialogues Video Challenges (Make short YouTube films on global social issues) – 3 X USD$1,000

The Video Challenges are an innovative, intercreative approach to making short YouTube films on global social issues.

Here’s how it works:

  • Global Dialogues produce the beginning of a short film and post it to YouTube.
  • Then, young people across the world compete with one another by creating and uploading videos that continue and finish the story.
  • Participants are asked to make videos that reflect their vision of a better world, helping characters in the film to find positive solutions to the problems they face.
  • The winning entries are chosen in a two-step process:
  • 1) semi-finalist entries are chosen by popular vote;
  • 2) winning entries are chosen from among the semi-finalist entries by Global Dialogues selection committees.

Here are the four Video Challenges of 2015:

Quarter 1: A Woman of Merit
The topic: sexual harassment in the workplace

Quarter 3: Creative Persuasion
The topic: talking to one’s partner about condoms

Quarter 4: Critical Time
The topic: peer pressure and drugs, alcohol & sex

The short film below is the beginning of a story that we challenge you to continue and finish in a video of your own.

 

Please continue the story in a way that reflects your vision of a better world. Help characters in the film to find positive solutions to the problems they face.

Your video may be up to 2 minutes long.

Who and where?

The Video Challenges are open to ALL young people WORLDWIDE under the age of 25. If you are older than that, you may participate by working in a team led by someone who is under 25. We fully expect that many teams will include people over 25; please just be sure that you designate a team member under 25 to represent you.

The director of the winning video from each of the 3 Global Dialogues regions will receive US$1,000 and international visibility:

You have until the end of Saturday, 28 February 2015 to submit your video to the Challenge. Voting will then be open until the end of Sunday, 15 March 2015.

When?

The Video Challenges run year-round in 3-month cycles.

  • 29 December – 28 February Entries & comments accepted
  • 1 March – 15 March Voting
  • 31 March Winner announced

How to participate?

Here are the easy-to-follow steps:

  1. Become familiar with the Video Challenges by carefully reading this Rules and Prizes page and our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section.
  2. Watch the current Video Challenge film (the beginning of the story)
  3. Create a video in which you continue and finish the story. Your video entry may be up to two minutes (120 seconds) long. We accept videos in English, videos in other languages that are subtitled in English, videos with no spoken words, or videos in which the spoken text is not essential to understanding the action. To help you in creating and uploading your video entry, we’ve listed some helpful links to useful online sources in our Resources section.
  4. Upload your video entry to your own YouTube channel or the YouTube channel of a friend.
  5. Create an account for yourself at www.globaldialogues.org.
  6. Complete the Video Challenge registration process for your video entry.
