The Goethe-Institut in Johannesburg, in collaboration with the Market Photo Workshop, is organising three consecutive and related events – two training courses and a curriculum development meeting on photography training – that are taking place between 25.05. – 05.06.2015 in Johannesburg as part of the project Centers of Learning for Photography in Africa (CLPA).

Eligibility Criteria:

  • For the Training of Trainers of Photography (beginners) and Curriculum Development Meeting (advanced trainers & educators) Goethe-Institut and the Market Photo Workshop are looking for participants from all over the continent

The aim of Centers of Learning for Photography in Africa is to contribute to the professionalisation of photography on the African continent by forming a strong educational resource network. The network of independent, well-equipped and self-sustainable training structures will facilitate training initiatives’ access to tools and content relating to curriculum-development, teaching methods, infrastructure and equipment.

Training of Trainers of Photography (beginners)
25 – 29 May 2015 in Johannesburg

Course elements
The five-day training course will include the following elements:
  • Defining and structuring training modules (theoretical/historical framework, technique, concept,preparation, presentation)
  • Pedagogical training and discussion
  • Training platforms and avenues
  • Technique and infrastructure
The Goethe-Institut and the Market Photo Workshop invite photography practitioners involved in education and the training of photography (beginners), to participate in the training course, which will be followed by an online mentoring and support program.
Benefits:
  • The training course, travels and accommodation are covered by the Goethe-Institut for participants, who will be expected to participate for the full duration of the course, and commit to playing a role in the long-term execution of the CLPA-initiative

Curriculum Development Meeting – training photography (advanced trainers / educators) : 01 – 02 June 2015 in Johannesburg

The Goethe-Institut in Johannesburg, in collaboration with the Market Photo Workshop, is organising three consecutive and related events – two training courses and a curriculum development meeting on photography training – that are taking place between 25.05. – 05.06.2015 in Johannesburg as part of the project Centers of Learning for Photography in Africa (CLPA).

Meeting elements
  • The two-day consultative meeting and exchange platform will include the following conversations and elements relating to photography training curricula:
  • Establishing shared network standards and objectives (Are we on the same page? Are we heading in the right direction?)
  • Assessing the state of photography training on the continent
  • What methods/structures/tools/documentation exist/are missing/need to be updated?
  • Identifying significant and relevant similarities and differences between countries/regions
  • Avenues and platforms for exchange/sharing of methods/structures/tools/documentation
  • Definitions of vision and mission of training photography
  • Way forward (incl. distributing roles and responsibilities)

For Whom:

  • The Goethe-Institut and the Market Photo Workshop invite photography practitioners, who have been involved in education for several years and who are interested to share and further develop their knowledge, to participate in the meeting.
