2015 International Summer School in Oslo, Norway (Scholarships Available)

The International Summer School (ISS) offers intensive Master’s and Bachelor’s courses each summer, from late June to late July.

The ISS is a learning community of diverse students who come together to study, interact and increase understanding and good will between nations. This requires friendliness, frankness and tolerance among all involved. Each summer over 550 students from about 90 countries are welcomed.

There are three categories of courses offered at the International Summer School in Norway:

To be a successful scholarship candidate you will need to demonstrate:

  • that your academic background is related to the course you wish to take;
  • that your professional background/goals are related to the course you wish to take;
  • financial need;
  • personal qualities that make you a good representative of your country.

Who CANNOT apply for scholarships awarded by the ISS?

  • Applicants residing in Norway (regardless of citizenship)
  • Applicants for Intensive Elementary Norwegian, Level I
  • Medical professionals applying for Norwegian language courses
  • Former ISSstudents

Who can apply for scholarships to Bachelor’s courses?

  • Applicants who studyScandinavian Studiesat their home university
  • Applicants from theCaucasus or the Balkans;
  • Applicants from the EU and EEA countries;
  • Applicants from the Asia, Oceania, Africa and South America
  • Applicants from the formerSoviet Union and Eastern Europe
  • Applicants from theUSA or Canada(mostly partial scholarships)
  • Applicants who can demonstrate a specific need to study in Norway

Who can apply for scholarships to Master’s courses?

  • Applicants fromdeveloping countries(particularly for NORAD countries)
  • Applicants from theCaucasus or the Balkans
  • Applicants from the formerSoviet Union and Eastern Europe
  • Applicants from theUSA or Canada(mostly partial scholarships)
  • Applicants who can demonstrate a specific need to study in Norway

Applying for Scholarships:

  • Citizens from countries in Asia, Oceania, Africa or South America may apply for full or partial scholarships for Master’s courses.
  • Applicants must demonstrate that their academic and professional background are the same as the course they are applying for. For example, a person with an engineering degree will not be considered for a course in human rights or peace studies.

Sponsored applicants

If you apply to the ISS as “sponsored” applicant, some or all of your costs will be covered from a source other than the ISS: an employer, a private foundation or company, school, etc. You may still apply for a partial scholarship from the ISS, however, ISS scholarships are non-negotiable once they are awarded.

Full scholarships may include:
  • Basic fees (on-campus)
  • Additional fees (if applicable)
  • Pocket money allowance (made available to you upon arrival; excludes recipients from USA and Canada)
  • Plane ticket to and from Norway (excludes recipients from USA and Canada)
Full scholarships DO NOT cover:
  • Visa application fees
  • Travel costs to and from the airport

Priority is given to applicants to Master’s courses from countries in Asia, Oceania, Africa or South Americawith an extremely weak currency against the Norwegian kroner (NOK).

Please enter your name exactly as it is written in your passport.
Please use one email address to avoid creating multiple user IDs/applications.
Make sure that you apply for the correct type: Scholarship/Self-financing, on-campus/off-campus.
Upload your required supporting documents by the deadline.
