Through the continuing generous support of the Lalji family and the Programme for African Leadership (PfAL) Foundation,The London School of Economics and Politics (LSE) is delighted to announce that it is making available a significant scholarship fund for bright African students applying to the eligible MSc programmes listed below.

- MSc International Development and Humanitarian Emergencies
- MSc African Development [must take half-unit consultancy project]
- MSc Development Studies [must take half-unit consultancy project]

- MSc Political Economy of Late Development*
- MSc Population and Development*
- MSc Urbanisation and Development*
- MSc Media, Communications and Development*
*The eligibility of these additional programmes for PfAL funding will be confirmed by end of February 2015 and will in part depend on demand. Successful Phase 1 applicants will be advised of the final eligible set of programmes before they submit their Phase 2 applications.
Scholarship
- A full scholarship will cover fees and living costs, but the value for each student will be assessed according to financial need.
- As well as studying for a prestigious London School of Economics MSc programme, all Lalji PfAL Scholarship recipients will benefit from an additional study seminar series plus automatic enrolment into the PfAL@LSE leadership programme which takes place throughout the year.
Commitment and benefit beyond LSE
- The Lalji PfAL scholarships are for people who share the vision and values of the PfAL Foundation – a commitment to ethical, authentic and effective leadership in Africa.
- Beyond the initial award of a prestigious 12-month Masters scholarship, PfAL alumni also benefit from membership of the PfAL network of emerging African leaders.
- All applicants should be prepared to sign up to the PfAL Leadership Code and commit to active participation in the Network.
Eligibility
- In 2015/16, the scholarships are open to applicants from across the whole of sub-Saharan Africa, however a minimum of 15 places will be reserved for applicants from Kenya, South Sudan and Uganda.
- Applicants who have not previously studied outside Africa are particularly encouraged to apply.
- In order to be considered for one of these awards, you must have a bachelor’s degree and meet the minimum entry requirements for LSE’s graduate programmes.

If you meet the entry requirements, please complete a PfAL Phase 1 application form. If your initial application is approved then you are eligible to apply for one of the selected MSc programmes (Phase 2) and complete a financial assessment form (Phase 3).
Only Phase 1-approved candidates holding an offer of a place on one of the approved MSc programmes will be assessed for an award. Assessment for an award will be made by the LSE Financial Awards Panel and on the basis of financial need.
Notification of the Award
All successful candidates will be notified of the outcome by email before 30th June 2015.
