South Africa is currently experiencing its worst drought in 23 years, resulting in a decline in farming output and food price increases. Farmers this year are expected to lose R10 billion, which put emerging farmers most at risk. The recent Agriculture for Impact Report found that “hunger and malnutrition could increase by as much as 20% as a result of climate change” by 2050, especially as agriculture accounts for the biggest employer in most African countries.
South African farmers and food producers need to access the latest technology and global best practices in order to produce more crops with less water, to integrate the latest technology into their businesses, and to reduce the cost of food production.
