ACE-ESD/World Bank Energy for Sustainable Development Masters Scholarship 2020/2021 for young Africans

The Management of the University of Rwanda through its African Centre of Excellence in Energy for Sustainable Development (ACE-ESD) at College of Science and Technology (CST) is offering Masters Programs in Energy for Sustainable Development with the following Awards:

  1. Master of Science in Renewable Energy
  2. Master of Science in Electrical Power Systems
  3. Master of Science in Energy Economics

Admission Criteria

  1. Masters of Science in Electrical Power Systems

To be admitted to the MSc. Degree Program in Electrical Power System, applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree with at least a second class, upper division or cumulative average score not less than 70% in any of the fields: Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering. Electro Mechanical Engineering. Renewable Energy Engineering or other related field

Bachelor’s degree holders in the areas mentioned above with second class, lower division, and at least a 2 Year relevant working experience are eligible to apply.

Applicants should demonstrate sufficient ability in English to undertake masters level course works and research.

  1. Masters of Science in Renewable Energy

To be admitted to the MSc. Degree Program in Renewable Energy, applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree with at least a second class, upper division or cumulative average score not less than 70% in any of the fields: Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electro Mechanical Engineering. Renewable Energy Engineering or other related fields

  1. Masters of Science in Energy Economics

To be admitted to the MSc. Degree Program in Energy Economics, applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree with at least a second class, upper division or cumulative average score not less than 70% in any of the fields: Bachelor’s degree in Economics, accountant, Statistics, Engineering, Agricultural Economics, Quantitative Economics, Finance, or related fields.

Bachelor’s degree holders in the areas mentioned above with second-class, lower division, and at least a 2-year relevant working experience are eligible to apply.

Applicants should demonstrate sufficient ability in English to undertake masters-level course works and research.

Duration

The Duration of M.Sc. Renewable Energy is 24 months (Equivalent to four semester)

The Duration of M.Sc. Electrical Power Systems is 24 months (Equivalent to four semester)

The Duration of M.Sc. Energy Economics is 24 months (Equivalent to four semester)

College of Science and Technology (CST), Nyarugenge Campus

Mode of Attendance

Full-time by Coursework (Courses will be offered in a modular basis) and Dissertation

Scholarship Opportunities

                   I.            ACEESD Scholarships

There are few full and partial scholarship opportunities available on a competitive basis for eligible candidates from Eastern, Southern Africa Region (Rwanda, Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Burundi, Mozambique, Uganda, and Zambia) and others African Countries. The ACE-ESD scholarship will support living and research expenses such as approved field trips/placements, internship, conference attendance, and publication charges. Candidates awarded the ACE-ESD scholarships are supported only for the duration of studies, i.e., 2 years for Masters. However, this support is incumbent upon successful progress in each year. Candidates on the scholarship must Endeavour to complete their studies in the stipulated timeframes as extension of funding will not be possible.

N.B: The Center will provide limited scholarships on a competitive basis. Therefore, applicants are encouraged to secure their own scholarships through their respective national scholarship schemes, International scholarship schemes or be ready to sponsor themselves.

  2. Notification of successful candidates:10th July 2020
  3. Registration and Induction week: Monday 4th October 2020
  4. Commencement of class: 11th October, 2020

  • A cover letter indicating for which program of study the application is being made and description of the motivation to join the program
  • Notarized Undergraduate Degree or Equivalence from HEC
  • Notarized transcripts
  • Motivation Letter
  • Copy of your ID or Passport
  • Updated CV
  • Two recommendation Letters from academic referees who are knowledgeable about the applicant.
  • Sponsorship letter from an organization (if any)
  • Applicants from countries where English is not the language of instruction at higher education must provide an English Proficiency Certificate from a relevant body or institution.
