Africa Summit on Women and Girls in Technology ( September 13-14, 2016) – Accra, Ghana.

The summit takes place September 13-14, 2016

The Africa Summit on Women and Girls in Technology is a collaboration between UN Women, the Alliance for Affordable Internet, the World Wide Web Foundation, the Ghana­-India Kofi Annan Center of Excellence in ICT, and the African Development Bank.

Bridging the digital gender gap is a critical step toward the vision of a thriving Africa—yet women are up to 50 percent less likely than men to be online. Join the design solutions to enable millions of African women and girls to benefit from access to technology—and use their skills to build a better Africa for all. This summit is a critical forum focused on how technology policy can further the rights and interests of African women and girls.

The Summit aims to connect women’s rights advocates and policymakers with Internet rights advocates, broadband policy leaders, and leading and aspiring women technologists and innovators in Africa. Participants will debate solutions and contribute to ongoing policy processes in the continent on broadband Internet access, sustainable development, and women’s empowerment.

  • Access to information,
  • Creation of relevant local content

Attecndance

  • The Summit is expected to attract at least 200-250 participants from throughout the African continent with diverse backgrounds including policymakers, technologists, ICTD practitioners from across civil society, public, academia and private sectors, young leaders and students
  • All will join to celebrate and showcase women’s innovation in ICTs while also supporting an initiative to advance gender responsive policies in ICTs
