The Andela StackUp Program

The StackUp program is now a 9 months career Accelerator program implemented by Andela in partnership with the Ministry of ICT. The program aims at empowering Rwandese nationals with the prerequisite software engineering skills to become world-class engineers. It also blends in soft skills training that is essential for professionals to thrive in any work environment, especially when working with a distributed team. 

Software engineers who successfully complete the 9-month program will: 

  • Gain the technical and professional skills demanded by the world marketplace
  • Gain the technical JavaScript skills you need to start your career as a FullStack Junior Developer 
  • Access to Andela’s pool of technical mentors.
  • The fastest track to your employment as a software engineer in the African Tech Ecosystem 

Through intensive learning, you’ll master the professional and technical skills you need to succeed as a software developer with the world’s top engineering teams.

THE APPLICATION PROCESS

Stage 1: Online Application

Fill out the application form on this page. To prepare for the upcoming technical assessment you can go through the FreecodeCamp Curriculum and attempt at least one project in Responsive Web Design and JavaScript Algorithms & Data Structures certifications.  

Stage 2: Technical & English Assessments

Once you submit your application, in preparation for the technical assessment, please attempt thisHackerrank sample test to get yourself familiar with the test platform. This is required to complete a technical assessment that will evaluate your knowledge of the content you’ve learned.

English proficiency test will also be administered to determine your level of grammar in the English language.

Stage 4: Bootcamp Phase

 Based on the results of the assessments, successful candidates will be invited to an 8-weeks bootcamp. This phase will help candidates understand their career goals while helping them build a solid foundation in web development and teamwork skills required to be successful in the project work phase. This will be achieved by independently building a capstone project with web technologies like HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, 

Stage 5: Project Work Phase

Successful candidates at the previous stage will advance to a 14-weeks active development phase, the following technical skills will be covered; 

  • PostgreSQL- An open-source SQL Database.
  • Express JS – A fast, unopinionated, minimalist web framework for Node JS.
  • Node JS – An open-source, cross-platform JavaScript run-time built on Chrome’s V8 JavaScript Engine.
  • Docker – An independent container platform that enables organizations to seamlessly build, run and share any application, anywhere.

Frontend

  • React/Redux JS – An efficient, and flexible JavaScript library for building user interfaces.

Stage 6: Apprenticeship

The apprenticeship phase of the program takes 14 weeks and the apprentices get to work on real-world products with active users and integrate into distributed teams with our partner companies. Partner companies are the companies with whom we agree to have our Apprentices work to get the requisite experience they need.

Technical Assessment: The Technical Assessment is a requirement for making it through our selection process. Please study and complete the first two sections of the  FreecodeCamp Curriculum before your test.

Technical & English Assessments:  September 25th, 2020 – October 2nd, 2020 

Bootcamp Phase: October 12th, 2020 – December 11th, 2020

Project Work: December 14th, 2020 – April 2nd, 2021

Apprenticeship: April 5th, 2021 – July 9th, 2021
