Call for Applications: African Geophysical Society (AGS) 2016 Awards

Application Deadline: 1st September 2016

African Geophysical Society (AGS) is a dynamic, innovative, and interdisciplinary scientific association committed to the pursuit of understanding of Earth and Space for the benefit of mankind

AWARDS

Two types of awards have been set aside for recognition in the 2016 conference of AGS

  1. African Early Career Award, and
  2. Best student paper Award

Requirements for the awards:

African Early Career Award

  1. Must be an African living in Africa
  2. Must have completed his/her PhD in an African Institution not earlier than 2010
  3. Must be conducting research in fields of relevance to African Geophysical Society.
  4. Must be a member of AGS.

Best student paper Award

  1. Must be an African living in Africa
  2. Must be a registered graduate student in an African Institution
  3. Must have sent an abstract to the 2016 conference of the African Geophysical Society.
  4. Must be a member of AGS.

 

Application for the awards

Qualified candidates should send in the following:

  1. Early Career Award
  1. A short biography indicating the following information: Names in full, postal/physical address, email address, telephone number, date of birth, Institutions attended with degrees obtained, Year of obtaining Ph.D., Title of PhD thesis, Area of Specialization, names and addresses of 2 referees.
  2. Bibliography: list of papers published indicating titles of articles, year of publication, journal names, volumes and page numbers.
  3. A short citation of not more than 50 words describing the candidate’s major contribution to knowledge.

 

  1. Best student paper Award
  1. A short biography indicating the following information: Names in full, postal/physical address, email address, telephone number, date of birth, Institutions attended with degrees obtained, Area of Specialization, names and addresses of 2 referees.
  2. A copy of the abstract submitted to 2016 AGS conference

 

Prizes

  1. Early Career Award
  2. Best student paper Award
  1. Certificate of Award
  2. Full sponsorship to attend 2016 AGS Conference
  3. Membership fee paid for 2017

How to Apply

Send application as attachment to Email: secretariat@afgps.org; the subject of the mail should be ‘Early Career Award’ and ‘Best student paper Award’ for whichever category is being applied for. The body of the mail should bear the name of the applicant only in full.
