Call for Applications: CYSDP Organizing Partners & Campus Ambassadors for #Sport4DevelopmentNG Campaign

The Commonwealth Youth Sport for Development and Peace working group (CYSDP) is calling for outstanding young leaders, passionate about, and with expertise, in the field of sport for development and peace (SDP), to support its #Sport4DevelopmentNG advocacy Campaign in Nigeria as Organizing Partner and Campus Ambassador.

The #Sport4DevelopmentNG advocacy Campaign aims at promoting the instrumentality of Sports as tool for achieving humanitarian, peace-building and development objectives. The Campaign also aims at mobilizing support and actions for the Nigeria Sports Bill which advocate for the promotion of Sports for Development and Peace practice in Nigeria. The bill also advocate for the establishment of Sports Institutions and facilities and the establishment of the National Sports Commission.

The Commonwealth Secretariat through the Commonwealth Youth Sports for Development and Peace Working Group and the Commonwealth Advisory Board on Sports have been making tremendous contribution towards advancing Sports for Development and Peace practice in Commonwealth countries. At the 8th Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on 4th August 2016 with Nigeria delegation led by the Minister of Youth and Sports; Sports Ministers welcomed recognition in the 2030 Agenda that sport can be ‘an important enabler of sustainable development’. They committed to align sports architecture, and sport-based policy and strategy, to the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) framework and associated targets.

The #Sport4DevelopmentNG Campaign focus on advocating that the Nigeria Sports Bill should recognize and adopt  the approved CYSDP recommendation by the Commonwealth Sports Ministers at the 8th Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meeting in Rio, Brazil. (4th August 2016).

The Campaign is also designed to be an advocacy platform that will synergize support, public awareness, and stakeholders’ engagement towards harnessing the instrumentality of Sports for fulfilling humanitarian, developmental and peace-building objectives.

Duties and responsibilities:

Organising Partner: The Organising Partners will work with CYSDP and its partners to support and mobilize actions for the #Sport4DevelopmentNG Campaign in their respective State in the Country.

They will support the Campaign in four key areas-

  1. Strategic planning and mobilizing supportthe #Sport4DevelopmentNG Social Media engagement,
  2. FacilitatingTown Hall Meetings/Public Forum for the Campaign
  3. Facilitating media engagement of local radio and TV station for the #Sport4DevelopmentNG Campaign
  4. Representing CYSDP #Sport4DevelopmentNG Committee at key events and meetings involving the Campaign

The selectedOrganising Partners will be representative of Youth-Led Organisations involved in Sport for development and peace practice, Sports Journalists, and representative of Sports Associations/Clubs at national level. Applicants must be between age 18 and 30 and must show demonstrated commitment to Sport for Development and Peace (SDP) practice through their respective volunteer and professional background.

A total of 36 Organising Partners will be selected representing each State of the Country.

Campus Ambassadors: The Campus Ambassadors will work with CYSDP and its partners, through their respective Organising Partners, to support and mobilize actions for the #Sport4DevelopmentNG Campaign in their respective Universities/other tertiary Institutions.

Selected Campus Ambassadors will be student leaders, Graphics designers, Campus Journalists, Athletes/Sport men and women (preferably those that have participated in Nigeria Universities Games), Sport Secretaries of Students’ Union etc.

They will support the Campaign in four key areas-

  1. Strategic planning and mobilizing support for the #Sport4DevelopmentNG Social Media engagement in their respective Campuses.
  2. Facilitating Public Forum for the campaign in their respective Campuses
  3. Facilitating friendly Inter-Campuses and Intra-Campus advocacy Football Matches and other SDP initiatives to advocate and mobilize support for the Nigeria Sports Bill.
  4. Representing CYSDP #Sport4DevelopmentNG Committee at key events, media engagement and meetings involving the Campaign.

Prospective Organising Partners and Campus Ambassadors must participate and mobilize participation for the #Sport4DevelopmentNG Social Media Campaign.
