Climate Change Media Partnership (CCMP) Fellowships 2016 to Attend the UN Climate Negotiations (COP22) in Marrakesh, Morocco (Fully Funded)

Application Deadline: JULY 8, 2016 AT 5PM EST

CCMP Fellowships to Attend the UN Climate Negotiations in Morocco

The Climate Change Media Partnership (CCMP) led by Internews’ Earth Journalism Network has the pleasure to announce that they are opening Fellowship opportunities for journalists to attend the 22nd Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) being held in Marrakesh, Morocco.

Formed in 2007 by Internews’ Earth Journalism Network (EJN), Panos London and the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), the CCMP has brought developing country journalists to the annual UN climate summits since 2007. This has enabled them to cover the summit for their home media organizations, work with experienced and knowledgeable journalists from around the world, and gain a multifaceted understanding of climate change’s global impact. Numerous regional organizations also play a supporting role in the partnership.

Eligibility Requirements:

To be eligible for this Fellowship, applicants must:

  • Be a professional journalist from or representing an established media house
  • Fill out the application form at the link below, including answering essay questions that illustrate his/her commitment to reporting on climate change issues
  • Be available to travel to Marrakesh, Morroco with arrival in Marrakesh on Friday, November 11 and departure on Saturday, November 19
  • Provide a letter of support from an editor, producer or supervisor who can confirm your ability to publish or broadcast your material in an established media organization. Freelancers are welcome to apply, but must provide a letter of support

The CCMP fully respects the editorial independence of all journalists. Throughout the conference, Fellows are free to report as they see fit. As well as the requirements above we ask that journalists agree to provide copies or summaries of all the stories they file during COP 22 for posting on our websites, and that they show collegial attitude towards other Fellows. One of the main benefits of this program will be the opportunity for Fellows to exchange views and information with their journalistic peers from around the world.

Criteria for evaluating applicants will include the prospective Fellow’s demonstrated interest in climate change issues; their audience; and the ability of the Fellowship to provide an opportunity for those journalists who might not otherwise have a chance to cover such events.

Benefits

  • As part of the Fellowships, the CCMP will cover travel, lodging and daily subsistence expenses, help with the press accreditation process, and provide other support services. Please note that, although the costs for visa applications can be reimbursed, the process of obtaining a visa is a Fellow’s responsibility.
  • During the COP 22, the Fellows will benefit from a series of specially designed activities, including an orientation session, daily breakfast briefings, and most likely a field trip and a media clinic.

Journalists will be asked to submit also examples of their work, which can be sent in a native language with a short English synopsis. Nevertheless, a good command of English is needed in answering the essay questions, and will also be important during the program as activities will be conducted in English.

In addition to selecting the initial slate of Fellows, targeted to be announced by the end of August 2016, a waitlist will also be created to select additional journalists if more funding becomes available.
