Theme: The South Africa of my Dreams.
Every year, Google gives youngsters around the world the chance to showcase their artistic talents through the Doodle 4 Google competitions hosted in various countries.
Doodle 4 Google invites learners of certain age groups to draw am image under a given theme and have the winning Doodle displayed on the Google home page for a day. The competition is open to primary and high school learners between the ages of 6 and 17 years. Learners must create their own Doodle under the theme “South Africa of My Dreams”, which celebrates our country’s 20 years of freedom.
Age Groups
Doodles will be grouped and judged by the following age groups:
- Age 6 – 8
- Age 9 – 11
- Age 12 – 14
- Age 15 – 17
Competition levels
100 Semi-Finalists
100 doodles from across the country will be chosen by a panel of Google employees based on which doodles they feel best represent the theme “South Africa of My Dreams”.
20 Age Group Finalists
The Guest Judges and Google doodlers will select the best 5 doodles from each of the age groups.
4 Age Group Winners
The South African public will vote for their favorite doodle from the 20 Age Group Finalists. Online voting will take place from November 12th, 2014 6:00 a.m.Central African Time (CAT) to November 26th, 2014 6:00 p.m. Central African Time (CAT).
1 Competition Winner
At the final event, one of the four Age Group Winners will be named the “Competition Winner of Doodle 4 Google South Africa” and the overall winner’s doodle will be featured on the South Africa Google homepage on December 2, 2014 for 24 hours, after being animated by the Doodle team.
Judging Criteria
Doodles will be judged based on the following three categories:
- Artistic Merit: based on grade group and artistic skill.
- Creativity: based on the representation of the theme and use of the Google logo.
- Theme Communication: How clearly the competition theme is expressed in both the artwork and the written statement.
Disqualifications
- Doodles that contain copyrighted images or logos will be automatically disqualified.
- Only one application per student. If more than one is submitted only the first will be considered and those thereafter will be disqualified.
How to Submit a Doodle:
- Applications can only be submitted by parents, legal guardians or teachers on behalf of the entrants.
- Only one application per entrant.
- If more are submitted they will be disqualified and only the first one received will be counted.
- Multiple applications can be submitted at once. E.g. teachers can scan an entire class’ applications and upload. The supported file formats are JPG and PNG.
- If a scanner is not available, high quality photos (at least 300 dpi) will be accepted. You can also send applications via mail,
