EducationUSA Scholars Program (ESP) 2018 for young Rwandan students

The EducationUSA office at the Public Affairs Section of the United States Embassy- Kigali,
seeks to identify and recruit Rwandan students who scored 75% and above in Senior 4, Senior 5, and Senior 6 to join the EducationUSA Scholars Program (ESP). Only students who will
graduate from secondary schools in November 2017 and those who graduated in 2016 or 2015 are eligible to apply. Students who graduated in 2014 and years prior are not eligible.
The Education USA Advising Center works with students through regularly scheduled training sessions to assist them throughout the application process to secure admission and financial aid from universities in the United States.  EducationUSA expect a sincere commitment from
the students to give back their energy and time to the program and to their communities.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • A VERY strong academic record, be actively involved in co-curricular and leadership activities, have a strong record of giving back to your community and demonstrate financial need.
SUBMITTING APPLICATIONS
  • Please complete the application form and submitit together in one PDF file with the required documents listed under the “ How to Apply” section, no later than Monday, December 11, 2017. Please, note that
  • Hand written application forms and recommendation forms may be submitted
  • ONLY typed application essays will be considered (The essay prompts may be found in the 2018 ESP application form).
  • All application materials should be submitted in one PDF document by e-mail to educationusakigali@state.gov
HOW TO APPLY

To apply for the 2018 EducationUSA  Scholars Program (ESP), students must fully complete the application. We will not consider incomplete applications. A complete application consists of the below documents (all documents must be submitted to educationusakigali@state.gov no later than Monday December 11th, 2017.

  • Complete application form. You may download the 2018 ESP APPLICATION FORM HERE (PDF-266 KB).
  • Letters of recommendation form attesting to your character, talent and skills completed by a teacher, school administrator, priest/pastor or NGO or community leader who knows you well. Students should ensure that the letters of recommendations are submitted no later than Monday December 11th , 2017

  • Attach scanned copies of school reports or academic transcripts from Senior 4, Senior 5, and Senior 6. All school reports should have an official stamp from applicant’s high school.
  • Write two essays from the prompts in the application, each of about 250 – 500 words. Submit your essay along with your application materials to educationusakigali@state.gov

Complete this application form fully, providing us with as much information as you can about yourself. We will not consider incomplete applications. A complete application consists of the below documents (all these documents must be submitted to educationusakigali@state.gov no later than Monday December 11th, 2017.
1) A completed application form
2) Scanned copies of school reports or academic transcripts from Senior 4, Senior 5, and Senior 6. All school reports should have an official stamp from applicant’s high school.
3) At least one recommendation form attesting to your character, talent and skills completed by a teacher, school administrator, priest/pastor or NGO or community leader who knows you well. Students should ensure that the letters of recommendations are submitted no later than Monday December 11th, 2017.
4) Write two essays responding to the below topics( 500 words maximum for each essay; all essays must be typed and be submitted in one PDF file together with other application materials listed under the “ How to Apply Section)
a. Why do you want to attend a university in the US and what could a U.S. education offer you?
b. Write about one of the t opics below:
A. Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they
believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story
B. The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?
C. Reflect on a time when you questioned or challenged a belief or idea. What prompted your
thinking ? What was the outcome ?
D. Describe a problem you’ve solved or a problem you’d like to solve. It can be an intellectual
challenge, a research query, an ethical dilemma-anything that is of personal importance, no
matter the scale. Explain its significance to you and what steps you took or could be taken
to identify a solution
E. Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others
