Electric South NEW DIMENSIONS VIRTUAL REALITY WORKSHOP 2017 for non-fiction VR projects – Cape Town, South Africa (Fully Funded)

Call for entries for the second New Dimensions Workshop, Cape Town, July 24-28.

The first New Dimensions VR projects from Kenya, Senegal and Ghana are now on the festival circuit. Each of these works offer a view of the vibrant, diverse and ever-changing cultural landscape of contemporary Africa.

Electric South are now looking for 6 new artists with exciting ideas for non-fiction VR projects from anywhere in Africa to attend the next VR workshop. You do not need to have any experience with VR but Electric South are looking for established artists and filmmakers in their field. We are also really interested in working with artists from diverse fields: documentary and fiction film, theatre, performance & visual arts, fashion, photography, writing, design and game development. Note, your ideas must be non-fiction but we welcome a range of approaches: 360 film, animation, interactive, hybrid etc.
Requirements
  • Artists must apply with between 1 and 3 non-fiction VR ideas.
  • If selected, you will workshop your ideas in Cape Town over 5 days with international advisors and VR experts.
  • The workshop will cover idea development as well as practical instruction in 360 filmmaking and interactive VR.
  • Benefits:

    All flights, local travel, accommodation, meals, visa costs and per diems will be covered by Electric South.

    The five day workshop will take place in Cape Town from 24 -28 July 2017. Applications are open from 13 March 2017 to 1 May 2017 and the announcement of successful candidates will be made on 15 May.

  • Following the workshop we will work with the selected artists to secure funding to further develop and produce their projects. Electric South reserves the right not to develop projects further.

The workshop is supported by the Ford Foundation and the Bertha Foundation.
