Etisalat Pan-African Prize for Innovation (USD 25,000)

Etisalat Prize for Innovation 2014 will reward the facilitation and promotion of:

Mobile Broadband in Africa
Broadband is primarily mobile across the African continent and critical to our economic development. A rise of ten mobile phones per 100 people boosts GDP growth by 0.6%, resulting in improved market information flow and assisting SME’s and Entrepreneurs to grow business and improve links.

The prize will be awarded in 2 subcategories with:

•  1st for the most innovative product or service launched in the last 18 months
(1st Dec 2012 – 31st May 2013).

•  2nd for the most innovative idea for driving or facilitating mobile broadband use in Africa.
Entries will need to show demonstrable impact (or potential impact for an idea) on broadband usage, impressive uptake from customers and have made a visible commercial or social impact on the community for the launched product/service.

Etisalat has a lauded track record for innovation in the Nigerian market and it remains one of the strategic imperatives of the business. Since starting commercial operations in 2008, a number of Etisalat’s products and services have been innovative first, including the first to launch an environment-friendly SIM in Africa, EcoSIM, and first to launch fast & affordable mobile broadband over 3.75G.

Etisalat believes innovation should go beyond improvements in existing products and services, and instead have real valuable social or economic impact to customers.
