Mozilla Equal Rating Innovation Challenge 2016 for Innovative Open Internet Ideas ($USD 250,000 Prize)

Application Deadline: 6 Jan 2017 at 23:59GMT

Mozilla is inviting entrepreneurs, researchers, designers, and innovators to help connect all people to the open Internet so they can realize the full potential of this globally shared resource. The Equal Rating Innovation Challenge is focused on identifying creative new solutions, ad providing US$250,000 in funding to bring these solutions to the market.

Mozilla seeks to make the full range of the Internet’s extraordinary power and innovative potential available to all. We advocate for “equal rating” where consumers choose content based on the quality of that content, not the financial power and business partnerships of the provider.

Criteria

Submitted concepts for the Equal Rating Innovation Challenge will be judged on the following attributes:

Equal Rating compliant

Every solution must provide unfettered access to the full diversity of the open Internet. Equal Rating solutions are content-agnostic, not subject to gatekeepers, and do not allow pay-for-play.

Affordability and accessibility

Ability to provide users/consumers/participants with access to the full diversity of the open Internet in a way that is affordable and accessible.

Scalability

Even if the solution is small and focused initially, special consideration will be given those that can be built and deployed in the near-term.

Empathy

Reflects deep sensitivity and respect for the experience of target users/consumers/participants.

Differentiation

Reflects an awareness of existing work on this space and proposes a solution differentiated from existing products and services.

Technical feasibility

Solutions should be ambitious, but even if the technology solution is far-reaching, it has to be grounded in engineering truths.

Sustainability

Reflects a clear approach and plan for building a long-lasting solution.

Team Capabilities

Team’s skills and previous experiences are relevant to the proposed solution.
