The 2013 CGAP Photo Contest (Over $3,000 in Prize Money)

WHO: The 2013 CGAP Photo Contest is open to all amateur and professional photographers at least 18 years of age, except for the operational team of CGAP, the World Bank, and their immediate families.


WHAT:
 We are looking for original, striking images of the impact of microfinance and financial inclusion around the world. These images may reflect a range of products and services, institutions, and methodologies, and may touch on a broad range of social, economic, developmental, and technological issues. We encourage entries from all regions, in both rural and urban settings. Each photo submission must be accompanied by a caption of how it reflects advances in financial inclusion, as well as the place and country where the photo was taken.

WHEN: All entries must be submitted by midnight EST 9 October 2013.

The Consultative Group to Assist the Poor  is looking for photos that capture the ways in which financial services are woven into the fabric of poor people’s day-to-day activities, and how financial inclusion can make their lives better.

The Consultative Group to Assist the Poor  wants you to show the range of ways in which poor households use financial services and products to enhance their lives. By sharing your images, you’ll help us tell a remarkable story of innovation and ingenuity and how access to finance helps the poor manage their complex financial situations.

Is there a moment or a place where you’ve witnessed the impact of access to finance for the poor? Has your lens captured people earning an income in traditional and nontraditional ways, or innovations in financial service delivery? We’re looking for photos that capture the ways in which financial services are woven into the fabric of poor people’s day-to-day activities, and how financial inclusion can make their lives better.

Each photo submission must be accompanied by a caption of how it reflects advances in financial inclusion, as well as the place and country where the photo was taken. By sharing your images, you’ll help CGAP tell a remarkable story of innovation and ingenuity and how access to finance helps the poor manage their complex financial situations.

Submit your photos for the chance receive considerable exposure, have your photo displayed in New York City’s Times Square, and help others picture what microfinance and financial inclusion means to different people around the world. Winners become part of a global community of photographers who share a twin passion for photography and improving the lives of the poor.

 

  • Grand Prize

    Estimated value: $2000.00 USD

    Grand prize is a $2,000 gift certificate for photography equipment and accessories.

  • People’s Choice

    Estimated value: $2000.00 USD

    People’s choice prize is a $2,000 gift certificate for photography equipment and accessories.

  • Second Prize

    Estimated value: $500.00 USD

    This year’s second place prize is a $500 gift certificate for photography equipment and accessories.

  • Third Prize

    Estimated value: $250.00 USD

    Third place prize is a $250 gift certificate for photography equipment and accessories.

  • Regional Prizes

    Estimated value: $200.00 USD

    One photographer from each region may receive a $200 gift certificate for photography equipment and accessories.

    Regions: Europe/North America, Latin America/Caribbean, East and Central Asia, Middle East and North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and East Asia/Pacific.

  • Finalists

    Estimated value: $50.00 USD

    Up to 14 winners from across all the categories will receive a $50 gift certificate for photography equipment and accessories.

Entries must be:

  • The original work of the entrant
  • Non-infringing of the rights of others
  • Respectful of the rights, sensitivities, and culture of persons depicted
  • An accurate reflection of the subject matter and scene as it appeared, without alteration (other than standard optimization, including removal of dust, cropping, adjustments to color and contrast, etc.)
  • A depiction of financial inclusion or microfinance.
