If you are pursuing a career in the development or humanitarian sectors and are a citizen of Uganda, Kenya or South Sudan, then you may want to consider applying for a Lalji PfAL Scholarship to undertake the MSc Development Management or the MSc International Development and Humanitarian Emergencies (IDHE) programmes at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
These scholarships are generously supported by Firoz & Najma Lalji and the Programme of African Leadership (PfAL) Foundation. The Lalji PfAL Scholarship fund is equivalent to 15 full scholarships. These will cover fees and living costs and the value of each student will be assessed according to financial need.
As well as studying for a prestigious London School of Economics and Polical Science MSc programme, all Lalji PfAL Scholarship recipients will participate in an additional programme of workshops, lectures and seminars focusing on African leadership and the challenges and opportunities facing the continent.
Successful candidates will also gain membership of the growing PfAL network of African leaders.

In 2013/14, the scholarships will be awarded to applicants from South Sudan, Kenya and Uganda, with a preference for those who have completed their previous degrees within Africa.
In order to be eligible for one of these awards, you must first apply for a place on the MSc Development Management or the MSc IDHE before Monday 13th May 2013. Only those candidates who are in receipt of an offer for one of the two programmes will then be considered for a Lalji PfAL Scholarship.
How to apply
Step 1: MSc application
Applications are made online using the School’s graduate application form . Please ensure you first read through the guidance for applicants before you begin your application.
For your application you should also note the following important points:
1. Academic Transcripts
An original (or certified copy) of your transcripts in English is required from all applicants. You will need to request these from your previous university. Scanned copies can be provided online initially however originals (or certified copies) will be required in the event that an offer is made.
2. References
Two academic references are required however if you completed your previous studies prior to 2010 you may submit one professional reference and one academic. References must be submitted directly to the Graduate Admissions Office by your referees so you should contact them without delay.
3. Application Fee Waiver
Once you’ve completed your online application you will be asked to pay an application fee. Provided you meet the eligibility conditions above, a fee waiver is available. Please email ard.gao.techteam@lse.ac.uk to request this waiver, quoting your full name, date of birth, and the name of the programme to which you’re applying in order for this to be processed.
4. English Language Requirement
Although we do not require proof of it at application stage, please be aware that if your first language is not English, or if your previous university-level degree was not entirely taught and examined in English, any offer would be conditional on meeting the higher level of English language ability.
The deadline for receipt of fully complete applications is Monday 13th May at 17.00 GMT. Applications will be assessed using standard School criteria and candidates will be informed of an admissions decision via the Graduate Admissions Office.

Step 2: Scholarship application
Upon receipt of your completed MSc application, you will then be sent detailed instructions regarding the scholarship application. This must be submitted no later than Monday 20th May at 17.00 GMT.
Only eligible candidates holding an offer of a place on one of the two MSc programmes will be considered for an award. Assessment for an award will be made by the LSE Financial Awards Panel and on the basis of financial need. It is therefore important that you complete the Lalji PfAL Scholarship application form, in full, accurately and promptly.
Notification of the award
All successful candidates who completed a Lalji PfAL Scholarship application will be notified of the outcome by email before June 30th 2013.
