Application Deadline Extended: August 30th 2016
Young people are invited to tell the world how they are shaping a more sustainable future by entering the second annual Global Youth Video Competition on Climate Change.
The competition, which is being run by Television for the Environment (tve) and is part of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change’s Action for Climate Empowerment and Momentum for Change initiatives, will culminate in a high-profile awards ceremony in November 2016 at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP22) in Marrakech, Morocco.
Requirements
- Young people between the ages of 18 and 30 can enter via the tve awards website until 1 August 2016.
The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change has teamed up once again with tve to launch a video competition for the best youth climate projects happening around the globe. Send us an inspiring three-minute video in one of two categories:
Categories
- Climate action: submit videos explaining how your activities have helped to address climate change.
- Public awareness: submit videos showcasing your efforts to raise public awareness around climate change.
This year Connect4Climate, an international initiative of the World Bank, is also joining forces with tve to support the Connect4Climate Minecraft Sustainable World category. It will allow young people to send in their climate change story in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals created through the Minecraft game.
The prizes
The two winners will receive the following prizes:
- Round-trip travel to COP22 in Marrakech, Morocco, November 2016; and
- Position as a youth reporter for COP22, responsible for assisting the UNFCCC Newsroom team with videos, articles and social media posts.
Judging process
Winning entries will be judged based on the following criteria:
- Content: clearness and effectiveness of the video in documenting a story about climate change, promoting action and/or offering new solutions.
- Innovation, originality, and impact: telling a climate story in a fresh and unusual way, appealing to a broad and diverse audience and encouraging further thought and action.
- Technical expertise: quality of camera and audio work, effectiveness of editing and strength of script.
A shortlist of videos selected by a judging panel including representatives from UNDP, UNFCCC and tve will be selected and posted online.
The winner in each category – the film which receives the most views on tve‘s Inspiring Change YouTube channel – will win a round trip to COP22 in Marrakesh and a place as a youth reporter.
All films entered in the Global Youth Video Competition will remain available online for viewing as the tvebiomovies competition continues to run.
