Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) Fellowships 2023 for cancer professionals

UICC is currently welcoming applications for the Technical Fellowships and the Bourses pour l’Afrique Francophone sub-programme on cancer prevention and early detection. This call is specifically for cancer professionals from low and middle-income countries seeking to gain skills and knowledge on these topics.

Objectives

  • Facilitate the international exchange and development of technical knowledge and skills in all areas of cancer control
  • Build capacity of the individual and the home organisation through the effective application and dissemination of the newly acquired skills in the home organisation upon return
  • Support the development of networks of cancer control professionals for the continued sharing of best practices and knowledge, and the informal provision of ongoing support, guidance or training

Eligibility

  • Eligible candidates are cancer professionals resident in low and middle-income countries working in cancer prevention or early detection such as public health investigators, implementation and translational researchers, pathologists, epidemiologists, tobacco control activists and cancer registrars in the early stages of their careers who hold at least an MSc or MA.-
  • In addition, clinicians and nurses who are established in oncology practice and hold as a minimum an MD degree (for doctors) or RN (for nurses) are eligible to apply.
  • Medical and PhD Students are not eligible.

Target candidates

Cancer professionals performing translational, clinical and implementation research, clinicians, nurses and pathologists and public health professionals including epidemiologists, health educators, social workers, nutritionists, administrators and other specialised professional workers working in the field of cancer prevention or early detection, and coming from a low or middle-income country are eligible to apply for a UICC Technical Fellowship in either English or in French if they are located in Francophone Africa.

Fellowship duration

  • Technical Fellowships support international visits of a minimum of two weeks and maximum of eight weeks in duration.
  • Applicants are required to indicate and determine the most appropriate length of their fellowship visit, depending on the project, the knowledge and skills to be acquired.
  • Specific justification for the duration of the visit is required, in terms of how this will be sufficient to achieve the learning objectives.
  • The length of the visit will determine the level of funding to be received, if a fellowships application is successful. The below table outlines the maximum level of funding that can be requested according to the duration of the fellowship. The maximum duration of a no-cost extension permitted is two months.
