University of Bonn/United Nations University Scholarships for students from developing countries to study in Germany (Fully Funded)

Application Deadline: January 15th 2017

The University of Bonn and the United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS) are delighted to announce that thanks to support from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) they will be offering up to eight fully funded scholarships to students from developing countries for the Joint Master of Science (M.Sc.) programme “Geography of Environmental Risks and Human Security.”

The scholarship scheme will run for the next eight years and is targeted at students from developing countries. Successful applicants will be able to cover all expenses directly related to the study programme as well as their cost of living in Bonn. “We are glad to offer the new master’s course with strong partners such as the United Nations University and the University of Bonn,” says Prof. Dr. Margret Wintermantel, President of DAAD. “The course broadens the range of opportunities we offer for young specialists from developing and newly industrialising countries at German institutions of higher education.”

The joint M.Sc. programme provides postgraduate students with detailed knowledge, critical understanding, strategies and the tools required to take an interdisciplinary approach towards environmental risks and human security. It is the third study programme in Bonn to be admitted to the DAAD funding scheme, in addition to the ZEF Doctoral Studies programme and the ARTS study programme offered by the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Bonn.

The joint M.Sc. programme scholarship is part of a larger scholarship programme called “Development Related Postgraduate Courses” funded by the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It offers a total of up to 280 scholarships per year for students studying in around 40 carefully selected postgraduate courses in Germany. Since the programme was established in 1987 it has sponsored about 6,000 graduates.

The ultimate goal of the scholarship is to foster intercultural exchange and enable the students to contribute to the sustainable development of their home countries by applying the knowledge they acquired during the study program. UNU-EHS, the Department of Geography at the University of Bonn together with the support of DAAD look forward to welcoming students from all over the world to Bonn.
