University of Ottawa Differential Tuition Fee Exemption Scholarships 2021 for international students studying in French.

In keeping with its commitment to the Francophonie, the University of Ottawa will offer a Differential Tuition Fee Exemption Scholarship to international Francophone and Francophile students who are enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s program as of September 2021. This significant contribution means that tuition fees paid by these international students will be nearly the same as those paid by Canadian students.

International students enrolled in a PhD program are eligible for the International Doctoral Scholarship.

Undergraduate programs

Value of the scholarship

The value of the Differential Tuition Fee Exemption Scholarship depends on the program. For example, if you enroll in the Faculty of Arts and tuition fees for international students are $18,080.39 for the Fall term, you will receive a scholarship of $13,500. This means you would only pay $4,580.39 in tuition fees.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for the Differential Tuition Fee Exemption Scholarship, international students must:

  • accept an offer of admission into a program offered in French; and
  • be enrolled full time and take at least three courses taught in French per term (9 units).

OR

  • accept an offer of admission into a program offered in English with a French immersion option; and
  • meet the admission requirements of the French Immersion stream; and
  • be enrolled full time and take at least three courses taught in French per term (9 units).

The Differential Tuition Fee Exemption Scholarship can be combined with the President’s Scholarship or Chancellor’s Scholarship but not with the Education Bursary for International Students.

Conditions for maintaining the Differential Tuition Fee Exemption Scholarship

In order to continue to receive a Differential Tuition Fee Exemption Scholarship until the end of an undergraduate program (maximum 5 years, equivalent to 10 payments), international students must:

  • be enrolled full time every term (except for the Spring-Summer term, during which part-time enrolment is allowed);
  • enrol in at least three courses taught in French per term (9 units).
  • remain enrolled in a Faculty each term and not withdraw before the end of the program.

Note that CO-OP students will not receive this scholarship during their CO-OP placement terms.

Master’s programs

Value of the scholarship

The value of the Differential Tuition Fee Exemption Scholarship depends on the program. For example, if you enroll in the Faculty of Science and tuition fees for international students are $8,490.60 for the Fall term, you will receive a scholarship of $5,500. This means you will only have to pay $2,990.60 in tuition fees.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for the Differential Tuition Fee Exemption Scholarship, you must:

  • accept an offer of admission into a program of study offered only in French;

OR

  • hold a secondary or postsecondary diploma attesting to a minimum of two years of study in French; and
  • for programs that offer compulsory courses in both official languages (English and French), enrol in the compulsory courses offered in French.

The differential tuition fee exemption scholarship cannot be combined with the Education Bursary for International Master’s Students.The following programs are only offered in French:

  • Audiology (MHSc)
  • Occupational Therapy (MHSc)
  • Lettres françaises (MA) (including specializations)
  • Speech-Language Pathology (MHSc)
  • Physiotherapy (MHSc)
  • Social Work (MSW)

In order to maintain a Differential Tuition Fee Exemption Scholarship until the end of their graduate program (maximum 2 years, equivalent to 6 payments), students must:

  • be enrolled full time every term, and
  • for programs that offer compulsory courses in both official languages (English and French), enrol in the compulsory courses offered in French.
  • remain enrolled in a Faculty each term and not withdraw before the end of the program.
