Women in Science (WiSci) Girls STEAM Camp 2020 for African High School Girls (Fully Funded to Ifrane, Morocco)

The Women in Science (WiSci, for short!) Girls’ STEAM Camps are a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for high school girls from around the world to dive into the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Design, Mathematics) subjects alongside their peers and develop their leadership skills, in a unique cross-cultural environment, with all expenses paid.

WiSci Camps are a safe, supportive, and girl-centered environment, bringing together 100 teen girls from three or more countries, to live and learn for two weeks together, girls are the heart of the WiSci program. WiSci facilitators teach girls to value taking risks, to bounce back after failing, and to build the reliance to keep trying again.

Those who will identify as first-generation college students upon entering college/university are highly encouraged to apply, as well as those applicants who have not traveled internationally previously. Applicants are encouraged to share if they face any personal and/or financial barriers to furthering their interest in learning about and pursuing educational and extracurricular opportunities STEAM fields. Additionally, applicants should be willing to have an open mind and interest in cross-cultural learning experiences. Please email wisci@girlup.org if you have any questions about being a camper.

Requirements

To attend WiSci Morocco 2020 as a camper, applicants must:

  • Self-identify as a girl.
  • Be 15-18 years old by June 15, 2020.
  • Have at least one year of high school/secondary school remaining after camp.
  • Be a resident of Morocco, Cote d’Ivoire, or the USA.
  • Be able to stay for the duration of the camp from July 15-28 2020

CAMPERS:

Self-identifying girls, ages 15 to 18 by the first day of the camp, with at least one full year of high school remaining after camp ends, who are citizens of participating countries. Those who will identify as first-generation college students upon entering college/university are highly encouraged to apply, as well as those applicants who have not traveled internationally previously. Preference will be given to applicants who are interested in learning more about STEAM and have limited financial resources or access to other learning opportunities.

WiSci Camps are a safe, supportive, and girl-centered environment, bringing together 100 teen girls from three or more countries, to live and learn together for two weeks  while exploring their interests in STEM. Camps include expert facilitators in STEM and girls’ leadership who provide a first-class classroom curriculum, mentorship opportunities, and skills training. Campers learn to value taking risks and to bounce back after failing, in a fun camp environment.

Since 2015, WiSci Camps have been made possible thanks to private-public partnerships between Girl Up and the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Global Partnerships, Intel, Google, Millennium Challenge Corporation, and many other incredible partners who are committed to closing the gender gap in STEAM.
