World Bank Group-IMF Young African Society (YAS) 2015 Youth Representative Nominations

WBG/IMF Young African Society is placing a call for youth representative nominations in the run up to the African Youth Forum in Abidjan. This forum, under the overarching theme of “Empowering and equipping young Africans to take ownership of the post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals”.

The World Bank Group-IMF Young African Society (YAS) is a vibrant network of young professionals at the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund that are passionate about engaging with young Africans on the continent and around the world to support a youth driven platform that promotes the participation and inclusion of young Africans in ending extreme poverty by 2030.

Since its inception, YAS has held an African Youth Forum in Washington D.C and is excited to have their second forum on the continent.

It is scheduled for May 22nd -24th, in parallel with the African Development Bank’s Annual Meetings, and will serve as a groundbreaking platform for Africa’s youth to present the state of their respective demographic, propose solutions to their biggest problems and engage with the international development community, private sector and policy makers that are pivotal in shaping their future.

The main sub-themes for this year are Education, Employment and Entrepreneurship. With this in mind, WBG/IMF are asking you to nominate youth that would be exceptional representatives for their countries.

Ideal Candidates:

  • The ideal youth representative is daring in thought and action.
  • They see their countries and the African continent as a place of possibility and progress.
  • They are exceptional in their potential, remarkable in their achievements and actively working to impact the communities they live in.
  • They talk the talk and walk the walk.
  • Your nominee would have the chance to be part of a three person team that would represent their country at the conference in Abidjan.
  • This team would be involved in roundtable discussions, country and region presentations and case study assessments.

Criteria: –

  • Between the ages of 18-35 years
  • National of an African country
  • Working on policy, projects or initiatives that are benefitting the continent
  • Passionate about African Youth Issues.
  • Critical thinker and problem solver
  • Team player
  • Excellent written and presentation skills
  • Speaking French and English will be a plus but fluency in only one of these two languages is sufficient.
