In October 2015, this continent-wide initiative will bring hundreds of coding workshops to 20,000 kids and youth from 3 different age groups (8-11, 12-17 and 18-24) across 17 countries (Angola, Benin, Botswana, Cameroon, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, Seychelles, South Africa, Togo and Tunisia).
Coding is the literacy of the digital age indeed: a whole new language for children to speak fluently and express themselves in the 21st century. Knowing that 11 million youth are expected to enter the African labor market every year over the next decade2 and that digital jobs could increase their income by 40% to 200%3, acting now is a must.
How to Get Involved:
Children/Teen/Students
Age Groups: 8-11, 12-17 and 18-24
- These workshops will take place either in a school, university, science center of community center near you and regardless of your level of comfort with computers, they will address coding languages and topics of interest to your specific age group.
- Inviting classrooms, passionate teachers and fun learning tools will await you there and together, you will uncover a fascinating truth: coding is fun and it can open many doors in your life.
Teachers:
- Are you a representative from a school, university, ‘hackspace’, science center or community center? Are you a school teacher, university teacher, coding trainer, want-to-be trainer or a professional coder?
- Are you involved or would you like to be involved in teaching and promoting coding to children and youth?
- Africa Code Week may have just the right opportunity for you to step in.
All Africa Code Week workshops will be hands-on, allowing students to experience the fun things that can be done with code, encouraging them to explore while mastering challenging concepts in programming and game design.

Support the planning and execution of workshops, as per the Africa Code Week guidelines, in your own venue(s):
– Get teachers trained online for free!
– Host coding workshops for children & youth (October 1-10)
– Reach out to your local ACW Ambassador anytime for support!
TEACHERS/TRAINERS:
Attend free Train-The-Trainer sessions (online & on premise)!
Commit to & deliver at least one workshop to young people in a local venue depending on your invitation, or as you personally arrange with a local teaching venue. Feel free to reach out to your local ACW Ambassador anytime for questions or help!
Leverage the learning materials and open source platform to host your workshops.
