2015 M-Net Magic in Motion Academy 12 Months Internship Programme for Recent Film and TV School Graduate, South Africa (Monthly Stipend Available)

Part of the M-Net Magic in Motion CSI initiative, the M-Net Magic in Motion Academy seeks to provide 12 historically disadvantaged individuals, who are recent film and TV school graduates, with the opportunity to participate in a 12 month internship including attending development seminars and gaining ‘hands-on’ experience in the industry.

These 12 interns, who must hold a 3-year qualification from an accredited tertiary institution registered with both the Council of Higher Education and SAQA, of which film and TV was a major subject, will be selected after a rigorous selection process that begins in November 2014 and concludes in March 2015, at which time the Academy will begin.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Demographic South African citizens from previously disadvantaged population groups
  • Academic Qualifications B-grade Average in a three year Film and TV Production Qualification from a reputable and accredited tertiary institution
  • Passionate about the Film/TV Industry
  • A keen interest to join the industry and become a key driver and contributor to the development of a robust and thriving entertainment industry
  • Energetic and Resilient
  • Must be willing to relocate to Johannesburg/Gauteng for the duration of the Internship (12 months)

The Internship Programme:

  • In addition, M-Net aims to work closely with the country’s academic institutions who offer 3-year film and TV qualifications to identify those outstanding individuals registered with these institutions who would best benefit from the Academy and whose academic record merits them for consideration.
  • This is a highly structured internship, based on a specifically designed core-hours curriculum, where in addition to receiving a monthly salary from M-Net, interns will be continuously exposed to all aspects of production and broadcasting and will be rigorously competency tested. In effect, these 12 individuals will gain several years of experience in a period of just 12 months which should make them highly employable when they enter the job market.

Selection Criteria:

  • The selection criteria that graduates must meet in order to qualify to apply for the Academy includes graduating with a minimum B average final grade within six months of the Academy’s launch.
  • Further criteria requirements includes providing relevant documentation, as laid out in the application form, such as the provision of full and complete academic transcripts.
  • Shortlisted applicants will be expected to undergo psychometric testing as well as attend telephonic and in person interviews with the Academy selection panel.

Benefits:

  • Those individuals selected as interns for the Academy will be paid a monthly stipend from M-Net and will have to sign a mandatory participation contract prior to attendance of the Academy.
  • The interns will receive intensive practical training, according to a specifically designed and enforced curriculum that will encompass the following areas: Production commissioning, Concept creation, Script writing, Producing, Directing, Cinematography, Sound, Art Direction (décor, wardrobe, make-up), Editing, Post-production and Broadcasting.
  • Further, interns will access these disciplines across various programming genres such as: movies, soaps, dramas, comedies, live shows, music, sport, magazine, documentary, actuality and reality.
  • In addition, interns will be exposed to studio and location shoots as well as the creation of promotion material and graphics.
