The Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA) Young Professionals Programme 2020 for young Kenyans

It is KIPPRA’S flagship programme, it has been running since 2003 and overseeing 10-14 graduands each year. It targets to enhance the technical competence in evidence-based policy process, build research capabilities of participants, enlighten on the scope, relationships and procedures in governance structure in both national and county level, introduce participants to economic tools of analysis and provide practical experience in the policy making process. The programme targets young persons from both public and private sector at initial stages of their career. Flexible consideration is given to employees of County governments on a need basis.

KIPPRA has been running this programme since 2003. This is the institute’s flagship capacity development programme that graduates 10-12 candidates each year. Its popularity has grown where each year over 300 applications are received competing for the few available positions.

Over 100 young professionals have graduated in the programme with some returning to their previous duty stations, and others by becoming highly competitive in the labor market have secured lucrative jobs.

Target Group

The programme is geared to young professionals building careers in public policy at National and County governments as well as the private sector.

Requirements

  • Be below 35 years of age
  • Possess an MA or Msc degree in Economics or related social sciences
  • Have at least one (1) year practical experience in the proposed area of training
  • Have strong analytical skills, problem solving capabilities and be results oriented

Each year in the month of April, young professional vacancies are published in at least one local daily and an the institute’s website.

The recruitment process is highly competitive and successful candidates join the Institute at the beginning of each financial year.

As a young professional you will work on research projects that cover policy issues relevant to advancing the Kenya development agenda

The programme also allows you to interact with key policy makers, prepare you to have a practical understanding of the public policy process and to be a professional with notable repute.

Programme Features

The young professional programme is a twelve-month programme. It builds your confidence in articulating policy issues through policy dialogue, and understanding research

The learning for the programme is experiential immersing you into different functional areas of the institute preparing you adequately for the job market.
