Maternal Figures Solutions Journalism Fellowships 2021 for Nigerian Journalists

Application Deadline: February 26th 2021

Supported by the Brown Institute for Media Innovation and Code for Africa, we are launching a set of Solutions Journalism Fellowships.

This programme will support four journalists every quarter with a stipend to cover a maternal health story or introduce solutions journalism to their newsrooms. You may apply as a reporter or as an editor.

While it is not a requirement, journalists who intend to apply for the reporting grants are encouraged to attend a Maternal Figures webinar on using the database and reporting on maternal health from a solutions journalism perspective. If you’re considering an application for the grant and would like to ask us some questions, please join our Q&A session on February 6, 2021.

We consider applications on a rolling basis, the timeline below is for journalists interested in applying for the April – June 2021 Quarter. We look forward to seeing your application.

• 1Fri Feb 26 2021 Application DeadlineSubmit a pitch for your story using the form below, be sure to include a letter or email from an editor of a publication who is interested in publishing your story.
• 2Fri Mar 05 2021 Application Review and DecisionWe will review your pitch, contact the editor you included, and read your clips. If you are selected, you will be contacted with next steps. If you are not selected, your application will be held and re-evaluated for the next quarter.
• 3Thu Apr 01 2021 Reporting BeginsYou will receive the grant in two halves: at the beginning of the quarter you are awarded the grant and when the story is published.
