South African Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) National Youth Service Programme 2020/2021 for Unemployed young South Africans

Unemployed graduates (18-35 years of age) are invited to apply to join the 2020/21 intake for the Department of Science and Innovation’s National Youth Service Programme.  A total of 550 places are available, mainly for science, technology, engineering and mathematics graduates.

The programme, which is part of the government-wide National Youth Service initiative, places selected volunteers at various institutions (e.g. schools, universities, science councils and NGOs) across the country, allowing them to gain workplace experience for 12 months while offering a service to the community.

Participating volunteers will be paid monthly stipends at the following scale:

NQF Level 6National diplomaR4 500
NQF Level 7Bachelor’s degree/BTechR5 000
NQF Level 8Honours degreeR5 500
NQF Level 9Master’s degreeR6 500
NQF Level 10PhDR7 700

Volunteers are responsible for their own travel and relocation costs.

To apply, submit your CV with contactable references, certified copies of your ID and qualifications, and a letter setting out why you want to participate in the programme, which province you live in, and the province and institution you hope to be deployed to.  Applications should be sent to nysprecruitment@saasta.ac.za
