Each year, a group of 20-24 emerging leaders from different regions of the world are selected to become Ford Fellows of 92nd Street Y. The program includes a three-week residency in New York City and ongoing communication before and after the residency via telephone and email.
Fellows are expected to complete reading, writing and group assignments prior to their residency to maximize the value of their fellowship experience and after their residency to evaluate its impact and success.
The 2014 Ford Motor Company International Fellowship of 92nd Street Y is only accepting applications from community leaders who are living and working in Brazil, P.R. China, Dominican Republic, Haiti, India, Israel, Myanmar, Russian Federation, Senegal and Turkey.
LEARNING, SKILL-BUILDING, AND NETWORKING
Fellows participate in an intensive immersion experience designed to address the challenges of community building in today’s world. In partnership with the Picker Center for Executive Education at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, we provide classes and participatory workshops in nonprofit management, leadership, and strategic thinking.
The academic curriculum is complemented by visits to model nonprofits throughout New York City and meetings with academic, business, and government leaders. The experience is enhanced by the Fellows’ residency at 92nd Street Y, an institution founded in 1874 that has grown to serve over 300,000 people annually. At once a school, a lecture hall, a performance space, and a community organization, 92nd Street Y is a nonprofit organization unique in the world and vital to the cultural life of New York City.
Fellows have the opportunity to meet with 92nd Street Y staff experts, board members, and community partners.
A successful applicant must demonstrate that he or she:
- is a community leader engaged in the nonprofit sector, either professionally or as a volunteer;
- is successfully addressing issues that affect the community’s well-being; and
- would benefit from an intensive three-week nonprofit management training course in New York.
The residency takes place Wed, May 28 to Thur, Jun 19, 2014 in New York City. Airfare, accommodations, food, transportation, instruction and other program-related expenses are included in the fellowship and participants receive a small stipend upon arrival.
