Applications are now open for the 2027 Chevening UK Government Scholarships Programme. Chevening Scholarships enable outstanding emerging leaders from all over the world to pursue one-year master’s degrees in the UK. If you have the passion and influence to solve pressing local, national, or global challenges, we strongly encourage you to apply.
Chevening Scholarships are fully-funded, leaving you free to focus on achieving your professional goals and maximising the experience of a lifetime. You will live and study in the UK for a year, during which time you will develop professionally and academically, network extensively, experience UK culture, and build lasting positive relationships with the UK.
Requirements
To be eligible for a Chevening Scholarship you must:
- Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory.
- Commit to returning to your home country (country of award) for at least two years after your scholarship ends.
- Have at least two years’ work experience, acquired after completing your undergraduate degree, equivalent to 2,800 hours.
- Hold an undergraduate degree that qualifies you for a UK master’s programme.
- Apply to three different and eligible UK university courses. You must have received an unconditional offer from at least one of these course choices by the deadline listed on the application timeline.
Benefits
The Chevening Programme includes a tailored engagement programme creating opportunities for scholars to network with each other as well as alumni, the FCDO, high profile speakers and partner organisations. Award recipients receive:
- Payment of tuition fees
- Economy travel to and from your country of residence by an approved route for you only
- An arrival allowance
- The cost of an entry clearance (visa) application for you only
- A departure allowance
- A contribution of up to £75 for TB testing, where this is required
- A travel top up allowance
- A monthly personal living allowance (stipend) to cover accommodation and living expenses. The monthly stipend will depend on whether you are studying inside or outside London. These rates are subject to annual review.
Application Timeline
- 4 August 2026: Applications open at 11:00 UTC

The deadline for applications is 6 October 2026 at 11:00 UTC. You will not be able to access the online application system after this date.
- From October 2026: Applications are sifted against eligibility criteria.
- Mid-October 2026 to January 2027: Reading committee assessments
Independent reading committees assess all eligible applications. - Mid-February 2027: Applicants shortlisted for interviews
Once applications have been reviewed, British embassies and high commissions produce a shortlist. These candidates are invited to interview. Congratulations if you make it this far! To prepare for your interview, please read the interview guidance. - March to April 2027: Interviews take place
Candidates from all over the world are interviewed by panels at British embassies and high commissions. - Candidates invited for an interview must upload all their documentation to the online application system at least seven working days before their interview. Documents include photo ID, undergraduate education certificate/diploma, and reference letters.
- Mid-June 2027: Results
After months of preparation and trepidation, successful candidates will experience jubilation when interview results are announced from mid-June onwards. - 8 July 2027: Offer deadline
If you are invited to interview and your interview is successful, you will be asked to submit your unconditional offer from a UK university. The deadline to receive and submit at least one unconditional UK university offer is 17:00 BST (UK time) on 8 July 2027. - September/October 2027: Studies begin in the UK
2027-28 Chevening scholars commence their studies in the UK, and enter into an international network that they’ll be a part of for the rest of their lives!
