Application Deadline: March 31, 2026 11:59pm US Eastern Time.
Applications are now open for the 2026 Covering Climate Now (CCNow) Journalism Awards. This is the sixth year of our annual awards program, and, at a time when too many leaders around the world are retreating from the climate issue, the opportunity to spotlight and celebrate excellent climate storytelling is more essential than ever.
Requirements
- Submissions are accepted from journalists everywhere, representing news outlets big and small, as well as freelancers. Outlets may also submit several entries by different journalists.
- All eligible work must have been published or broadcast in 2025. There are a few exceptions: For series, including in the “Large projects & collaborations” category, the majority of work should be from 2025, but some may have been published in 2024 or 2026. And in the “Emerging Journalists” and “Journalists of the Year” categories, entries may include work from past years or 2026 for up to two of the five required pieces.
- Journalistic work in all mediums is eligible, including but not limited to writing, audio, video, photography, multimedia, editorial cartoons, and data. All journalistic styles are also eligible, including but not limited to breaking news, feature reporting, opinion/commentary, investigations, newsletters, and documentaries. We cannot accept books or academic work.
Entry Categories
- The majority of categories are subject based, whereas in early years categories were broken out by medium (i.e., writing, audio, video, etc.).
- In addition to 14 subject-based categories, our judges will honor three “Large projects and collaborations,” three Emerging Journalists of the Year, and three Journalists of the Year.
