Application Deadline: July 19th 2020
The UN SDG Action Awards is an annual awards programme to identify and celebrate the SDG advocates and changemakers from civil society organizations, grassroots groups, individuals, local governments, social impact start-ups, thematic networks and private sector entities from across the globe. The aim of the SDG Action Awards is to shine the spotlight on these outstanding initiatives to show us what is possible and how each one of us can become an agent of change and transform our societies.
Everyone is encouraged to apply. Initiatives led by UN entities and national governments will be eligible for honourable mentions only.
Initiatives that have been closely co-developed with the UN SDG Action Campaign or as part of a signed partnership agreement with the UN SDG Action Campaign are not eligible. If you are unsure whether you are eligible, please contact us.
The 2020 version of the UN SDG Action Awards will introduce a few changes from previous years:
- Simplifying the categories from 7 down to only 3: mobilize, inspire and connect(and no People’s Choice Award).
- Moving the location of the UN SDG Action Awards Ceremony from the SDG Global Festival of Action in Bonn, Germany to UN Headquarters in New York City in September.
The winners will be honoured at a special Awards Ceremony at UN Headquarters in New York City during the high-level week of the General Assembly in September and their initiatives will be highlighted throughout the year as an inspiration and role model to the growing global community of SDG leaders, decision-makers and influencers.
The UN SDG Action Awards are organized by the UN SDG Action Campaign, a special inter-agency initiative of the UN Secretary General mandated to scale up, broaden and sustain the global movement of action for the SDGs. Last year, the SDG Action Awards attracted more than 2000 applications from 142 countries.
