Applications are now open for the 2027 NRF/SARAO Graduate In-Training Programme. The SARAO Graduate In-Training Programme is designed to provide recent graduates with practical experience in their fields of study, particularly in the context of radio astronomy and related disciplines. This program aims to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world application by offering hands-on training, mentorship, and exposure to cutting-edge projects.
Graduates in this program may work on various aspects of radio astronomy, including engineering, data science, software development, and project management. They gain valuable skills and experience that can help them advance their careers in the industry or academia.
Eligibility
South African citizens who completed or are in the final year of studies in:
- BSc / BSc Eng / B-Tech / Advanced Diploma Software, Computer Science, Data
- B.Eng / BSc Eng Mechanical or Mechatronic
- B.Eng / B-Tech Eng Electrical or Electronic
- B.Eng Civil Engineering
- Honours Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management
- Honours Degree in Cybersecurity, Information Security, Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering

Application Procedure:
• Shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a mandatory online assessment as part of the selection process.
• Successful graduates will be placed at SARAO Cape Town (Western Cape), Karoo Support Base, Klerefontein (Northern Cape) and Hartebeesthoek site (Gauteng) Offices for a period of 3 years, commencing in 1 March 2027.
• SARAO will offer financial assistance to successful graduates who register for a Masters degree (part-time), at a South African university while in the graduate programme.
