Applications are now open for the 2026 One Health Fellowship. The One Health Fellowship is a highly competitive, nine-month leadership and professional development program for early-career One Health professionals and junior faculty from Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, and Rwanda.
The Fellowship promotes mutual learning, strengthens One Health leadership, and builds sustainable partnerships between African institutions and partners in the United States through applied training, placements, and follow-on projects.
The One Health Fellowship is a flagship initiative of the Cummings One Health Collaborative (OHC), created by the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University in partnership with the University of Global Health Equity (UGHE), and the University of Rwanda (UR). The Fellowship is designed to launch early-career professionals on long-term leadership pathways by expanding practical experience, professional skills, and regional and global networks grounded in One Health principles.
Fellowship Structure
The fellowship begins in June 2026 and includes:
- A one-week One Health Leadership and Advocacy (OHLA) training held in East Africa
- A four-week applied One Health placement hosted by a One Health institution or organization aligned with the Fellow’s professional interests
- Attendance at an international conference, providing exposure to global One Health actors
- A Fellow-led follow-on project implemented in the Fellow’s home country
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be a citizen and/or current resident of Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, or Uganda.
- Be a recent graduate, early-career professional, or junior faculty member at an academic institution.
- Be fluent in spoken and written English.
- Work in a One Health or public health-related discipline, including (but not limited to) medicine, veterinary
medicine, environmental and social sciences, nursing, economics, policy, customs, gender and women’s
empowerment, media, psychosocial health, education, and community organization. - Play a key supporting role in addressing health threats in their country or in the
