Applications are now open for the 2026 WIPO-South Africa Advanced Summer School on Intellectual Property and Transfer of Technology. The Summer School program offers senior students and young professionals an opportunity to gain deeper knowledge across the various domains of intellectual property (IP), as well as a better understanding of the role and functions of WIPO.
Curriculum
- The program consists of lectures, case studies, simulation exercises and group discussions on selected IP topics, with an orientation towards the interface between IP and other disciplines.
- A certificate of participation is awarded to participants who successfully complete the program requirements.
Grant conditions
- A certificate of participation is awarded to participants who successfully complete the program requirements.
- To receive a certificate of participation, participants are expected to attend at least 85% of the sessions, actively engage in discussions and group work, and keep cameras on during online sessions, unless prevented by exceptional circumstances.
- Before applying, applicants should consider the required commitment that is needed for their participation in the Summer School.
Eligibility
- The Summer School is open to senior students (graduate and postgraduate) and young professionals from any field of study or discipline.
- The program is designed for candidates who are already familiar with IP.
All applicants will be given the opportunity to register for and complete the WIPO Academy IP eLearning Course on Intellectual Property Management (DL-450) as part of the application process, prior to selection for the program.
Format
- The Summer School will be conducted in a hybrid format, allowing participants to attend either onsite or online through Zoom or other designated virtual platforms.
- While both options are available, onsite participation is strongly encouraged. Please note that onsite participants are responsible for their own travel, accommodation and living expenses.
Registration Fees
- Fees have been waived for all participants.
Partial Scholarships
- A limited number of partial scholarships may be available for selected participants from African countries, subject to eligibility criteria and available funding, to support participation onsite.
Online Registration
- Applicants should submit their résumé together with a letter of motivation (setting out their reasons for applying and what they hope to gain from the Summer School).
- Selected applicants will be notified two weeks after the registration deadline.
