Applications are now open for the 2026 Allianz Climate Risk Research Award. The Allianz Climate Risk Award connects leading climate risk researchers with the insurance industry — from scientific insight to real-world resilience. Launched in 2017, the Allianz Climate Risk Award celebrates scientists at the start of their career whose work sheds light on the nexus between climate change and extreme weather events.
Requirements
The Allianz Climate Risk Award is a global award open to PhD candidates and post-doctoral researchers whose research focuses on:
- Understanding and mitigating the risk of extreme weather events that are intensified by climate change;
- Fostering resilience by applying technological solutions.
Global Award
The centerpiece of the program. 10 applicants are shortlisted by a jury of experts from industry and academia and their work is published in a Compendium on allianz.com. Out of the 10 shortlisted applicants, the top-three finalists are selected and invited to Munich to present their research at the Allianz Climate Risk Award event on December 03, 2026. A jury of Allianz global senior leadership members and external experts selects the overall winner.

- Prize: €7,000 (winner) | €3,000 (finalists)
Thematic Spotlight Award: Allianz Trade
Introduced in 2025 and sponsored by Allianz Trade. The award recognizes research linking climate change and extreme weather to global trade, trade credit, and supply chains. The winner is selected through a dedicated Allianz Trade virtual event and presents in Munich on December 03, 2026.
- Focus: Climate impacts on global trade and supply chains
- Prize: €7,000 (winner)
Selection Process
All applications are reviewed and shortlisted by a jury of senior experts.
Only applications with comprehensive submission documents sent to [email protected] by the required deadline can be considered for the Allianz Climate Risk Award
For the Global Award, out of the 10 shortlisted candidates, the top three finalists are invited to present their research at the Climate Risk Award event on December 03, 2026 in Munich. A jury of senior leaders and experts will determine the winner.
Allianz Trade will determine the winner of the Thematic Spotlight Award in a virtual event to take place in autumn ahead of the global event. The winner is invited to the gobal event in Munich on December 03, 2026, to present their research.
Allianz Asia-Pacific will host a regional event on October 26, 2026, in Singapore to determine the winner of the Regional Spotlight Award.
The winners of the thematic and regional awards are invited to the global event on December 03, 2026, to present their research in Munich.
Application Process:
- Core of your application should be a brief (max. 800 words) non-technical essay that outlines your research idea and highlights central findings. Please refer to the Compendium 2025 to find some examples.
- To submit your application, please send the filled out and signed forms as well as the required supporting documents, incl. essay, CV, reference letter, to [email protected].
