Applications are now open for the 2025/2026 TWAS Research Professors in Least Developed Countries (LDCs) Programme. A number of TWAS Fellows and TWAS Young Affiliates/Alumni will be offered appointments as TWAS Research Professors for one year, during which he/she will visit the host institution in a LDC for a period of two to four weeks. TWAS provides travel support while living expenses are covered by the host centre. NB: Only TWAS Fellows and TWAS Young Affiliates/Alumni are eligible for appointment. Requests need to be submitted by research groups/scientific institutions in LDCs.
The objective of the programme is to provide institutions and research groups located in Least Developed Countries (LDCs) with the opportunity to establish long-term links with TWAS members and TWAS Young Affiliates/Alumni to assist in research activities and advanced training and so help develop the local scientific capacities needed.
Eligible invitees
- TWAS Members, Young Affiliates and Alumni
- Minimum degree held: PhD
- Duration: between two and four weeks
Benefits
- Economy class travel (round-trip) and any additional travel expenses incurred by the TWAS Research Professor will be provided by TWAS as well as an honorarium. The host institution will be expected to cover local expenses.
IMPORTANT
- Requests are accepted from research groups and scientific institutions in Least Developed Countries (LDCs).
- This programme only provides support for visits of TWAS Members and TWAS Young Affiliates/Alumni to Least Developed Countries (LDCs).
Please be advised that applicants may apply for only one programme per calendar year in the TWAS and OWSD portfolio. Applicants will not be eligible to visit another institution in that year under the TWAS Visiting Professor programmes. One exception: the head of an institution who invites an external scholar to share his/her expertise under the TWAS Visiting Professor programmes may still apply for another programme.
