WAAW foundation is pleased to announce its 2012 scholarships, offering $500/year for need-based female African students admitted to a University, College or institute of higher learning in Africa. WAAW Foundation is a U.S. based non-profit organization focused on Working to Advance African Women. The mission of WAAW to increase the pipeline of African women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) related fields, and work to ensure that this talent is engaged in African innovation.
Scholarship recipients will receive an award of $500 for the 2012/13 academic year, or the equivalent in their country’s local currency. Scholarship recipients may reapply for renewal the following year, with proof of continued excellent academic performance.
(a) Female students of African origin, living and studying in Africa.
(b) Currently enrolled in undergraduate degree program.
(c) Studying in a university or college in Africa.
(d) Demonstrable financial need, and
(e) Excellent Academic Record.
How to Apply:
- Visit the WAAW foundation Website and complete the application form online. Follow the application instructions carefully.
- You must finish your application in one sitting. You will be required to write essays on your future career goals and how you expect the WAAW scholarship will assist in fulfilling those goals.
- They also require the contact information for two academic or professional references.
- NOTE that only shortlisted candidates will be asked for recommendation letters or University transcripts during the verification process. DO NOT SEND TRANSCRIPTS NOW! They are only accepting online applications this year.
Scholarship applications are reviewed by the WAAW Scholarship Committee, and awards are announced by January of 2013.
