Applications are now open for the 2026 YALI (RLC)East Africa/University of Iowa Africa Startup Accelerator. The Regional Leadership Center East Africa, in partnership with the University of Iowa, proudly invites applications for the inaugural Africa Startup Accelerator (ASA) 2026. The Africa Startup Accelerator (ASA) is a transformative 3-week entrepreneurship and leadership experience hosted by the University of Iowa’s Institute for International Business (IIB) in Iowa City, USA, from 30 June – 25 July 2026.
For nearly a decade, the University of Iowa hosted the prestigious Mandela Washington Fellowship, and ASA builds on that legacy by offering a streamlined, founder-focused environment designed to boost entrepreneurial trajectories, refine business models, and sharpen leadership skills for long-term success.
Program Highlights
- Immersive Curriculum: Using the Lean LaunchPad methodology, participants will test bold ideas, refine strategies, and unlock new growth pathways.
- Expert Mentorship: One-on-one coaching with top entrepreneurship experts from Eastern Iowa’s unique startup ecosystem.
- Leadership Development: Sessions to strengthen confidence, inclusive leadership, and investor readiness.
- Pitch Opportunities: Weekly pitch sessions to peers, mentors, and investors, creating a continuous feedback loop.
- Cultural Exchange: Room and board on the University of Iowa campus, plus cultural visits, networking events, and celebrations.
Eligibility Requirements - Regional Leadership Center, EA alumni
- Founders of active, innovative startups with clear growth potential and community impact.
- Age: 25–35 years.
- Hold a 4-year university degree.
- Proficient in English (written & spoken).
- Valid passport for travel to the USA.
- Disability is not a barrier — diversity across countries, sectors, gender, and backgrounds will be prioritized.
