Applications are now open for the 2025 Thomson Foundation Fact-Checking Ambassadors Program. Thomson Foundation is inviting applications from mid-career journalists to join a new capacity-building initiative aimed at strengthening media integrity and promoting factual, responsible journalism in Uganda.
Thomson Foundation will select ten journalists to take part in a Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop in Kampala in November 2025. Participants will develop advanced skills in verification, digital fact-checking, and practical training techniques to help them share these skills within their own newsrooms and professional networks.
Those selected will become part of a national network of Fact-Checking Ambassadors, leading peer-to-peer training cycles, contributing to newsroom verification protocols, and promoting a stronger culture of accuracy and accountability across Ugandan media.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
- Be mid-career journalists with at least five years of professional experience in journalism or a related media field.
- Demonstrate experience or strong interest in fact-checking, investigative reporting, or verification processes.
- Show a good understanding of the challenges related to misinformation and disinformation in the media environment.
- Have the capacity and motivation to lead training or mentoring initiatives within their newsroom or professional community.
- Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to promote accuracy and accountability in reporting.
- Represent diverse regions of Uganda to ensure national reach and diversity in the Fact-Checking Ambassadors Network.
- Be familiar with or willing to learn digital tools and platforms for fact-checking and verification (e.g. open-source intelligence tools, social media monitoring).
- Confirm their availability to attend the full training workshop in Kampala in November 2025.
