Application Deadline: 31 October 2026
Applications are now open for the 2026 Google Africa Virtual Algorithms Workshop. The Google Africa Virtual Africa Algorithms Workshop 2026 is inviting computer science and engineering students and recent graduates across Africa to strengthen their algorithmic problem-solving skills and prepare for software engineering interviews.
The online workshop will bring together Google engineers to explain core data structures and algorithms, demonstrate how to approach unfamiliar technical problems under time constraints, and share insights into what interviewers assess during coding interviews.
Taking place on 31 October 2026, this workshop is particularly relevant for university students and recent graduates who plan to apply for software engineering opportunities in the coming months. Participants will have the opportunity to learn practical interview preparation techniques and better understand how to communicate their problem-solving approach.
Programme Details
- Expert-Led Sessions: Gain insights and strategies from experienced Google engineers who have been through the interview process.
- Dive into Data Structures & Algorithms: Review essential data structures and algorithms commonly tested in Google interviews.
- Problem-Solving Techniques: Learn effective approaches to tackle complex coding problems under pressure.
The Google Africa Virtual Algorithms Workshop
Technical interviews are an important part of many software engineering recruitment processes. Candidates may be asked to solve programming problems, explain their reasoning, select appropriate data structures and algorithms, and develop efficient solutions within a limited time.
The Google Africa Virtual Algorithms Workshop aims to help students and early-career professionals become more confident when approaching these challenges.
Rather than focusing only on writing code that works, the session will explore how candidates can break down complex problems, reason through possible solutions and communicate their thinking clearly.
The workshop is designed for participants preparing to apply for technical roles and seeking a stronger understanding of coding interview expectations.
Requirements
The workshop is intended for students and recent graduates across Africa who are interested in improving their technical interview skills.
This includes:
- Bachelor’s degree students in Computer Science or Engineering.
- Master’s degree students in Computer Science or Engineering.
- PhD students in Computer Science or Engineering.
- Recent graduates from relevant fields who are preparing to apply for technical positions.
- Individuals aged 18 and above who want to strengthen their algorithmic problem-solving skills for software engineering interviews.
The workshop may be particularly useful for candidates approaching graduation or preparing for recruitment processes at technology companies.
Workshop Date, Time and Format
The workshop will take place online on Saturday, 31 October 2026, from 12:00 to 14:00 GMT.
For participants in different parts of Africa, the corresponding times are:
- West Africa Time (WAT): 13:00–15:00
- South Africa Standard Time (SAST): 14:00–16:00
- East Africa Time (EAT): 15:00–17:00
As the event is virtual, participants should check their registration confirmation for joining instructions and any technical requirements.
