Applications are now open for the 2026 ICFJ+ Foundational Learning Fellowship Program. ICFJ+ is seeking journalists and content creators in Kenya, Senegal and South Africa to join an initiative that will equip them with the knowledge, skills and networks to produce data-driven, solutions-oriented reporting on foundational literacy and numeracy. Up to 15 fellows will receive reporting grants, individual mentorship, story production support over a 6-month period, along with study tour opportunities and training on education data and pedagogy.
Requirements
- Journalists working for a news outlet or as freelancers and content creators and social media influencers based in Kenya, Senegal or South Africa are eligible to apply.
Program Details
- Strong candidates will demonstrate experience covering education, social policy or development (preferred but not required), a clear view of what is missing from current coverage of foundational learning in their country, and a commitment to reaching policymakers, educators, and affected communities – not just publishing stories.
