The Midnight Developer Challenge, a new Nokia and Microsoft contest for student developers in the Middle East and Africa. Develop a great app or game for the Nokia Lumia 920 with Windows Phone 8, and you could win some big prizes, including $10,000 (USD), free travel to a Nokia global event, a Microsoft Xbox, and a Nokia Lumia 920 smartphone.
To be eligible for the Midnight Developer Challenge, you must be a student aged 16 years or older who is enrolled in a school in the Middle East or Africa. Form a development team of one to three members, then register to enter. Each team may submit one app or game.
First-prize winners in both the apps and games categories will win $10,000 (USD), a free trip to a Nokia global event, a Microsoft Xbox (one for each team member), and a Nokia Lumia 920 phone (also one for each team member). Second-prize winners in these two categories will win $5,000 (USD) and receive a Microsoft Xbox (one for each team member) and a Nokia Lumia 920 phone (also one for each team member).
In addition, there will be one People’s Choice award based on votes received from the public on the Midnight Developer Challenge Facebook page. The winner of the People’s Choice award will receive $3,000 (USD), a Microsoft Xbox, and a Nokia Lumia 920 (one per team member).
All apps and games entries will be judged by a panel of faculty members and experts from Nokia and Microsoft. This panel will judge the entries on the basis of consumer relevance and appeal; usability and design; creativity; performance and quality; as well as differentiation and uniqueness.
Registration for the Midnight Developer Challenge is open now through 1 December 2012. After you register, your team will need to submit its app or game to the Windows Dev Centre by 30 January 2013, and then publish it by 28 February 2013. The winners of the Midnight Developer Challenge will be announced on 28 March 2013.
