Budding entrepreneurs across Africa can now apply to join the second annual Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Programme (TEEP) for start-up businesses based in Africa.

Applications for 2016 open on 1 January and can be made by any for-profit business based in Africa, including new business ideas which have been in existence for less than three years.

The Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Programme (TEEP) a 12-week programme to equip startups with the basic skills required to launch and run their businesses at the early stage of their growth.The programme will bring together the best tools and frameworks to teach and hone entrepreneurship skills in Africa and globally.

The Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Programme #TEEP, a Pan-African entrepreneurship initiative of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, is a multi-year programme of training, funding, and mentoring, designed to empower the next generation of African entrepreneurs.

The programme will be a mix of online and face-to-face instruction, including webinars and video tutorials with support from your mentor throughout. It will cover topics on starting and scaling a business, business development, marketing strategy, effective management and product design.

Requirements:

The Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Programme is open to citizens and legal residents of all 54 African countries.

Benefits:

Successful applicants who complete the programme will receive the local currency equivalent of Naira 850,000 as non-returnable seed capital, and are eligible for a further Naira 850,000 in the form of either debt or equity, depending on business need and other criteria.

Selected entrepreneurs will join the existing cohort of 1,000 Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurs, from 51 countries, who formed the inaugural 2015 cycle of the TEEP programme and have thus far, received considerable benefits from their participation, including:

Training: 12 weeks of training on how to set up and manage businesses with mentoring and financial support offered by The Tony Elumelu Foundation.

Accelerated Growth: Over 90% of Tony Elumelu entrepreneurs, with existing businesses, have reported increased growth in the past year.

Access to Further Funding: A significant portion of our entrepreneurs have accessed additional external funding through the platform provided by Tony Elumelu Foundation.

Networking Opportunities: A flourishing alumni network has developed, providing personal linkages and business opportunities across the Continent.

TEEP is a commitment by the Tony Elumelu Foundation to identify and fund 10,000 African entrepreneurs over a 10-year period.

Government of India (ICCR) Africa Scholarships 2016/2017 for Study in India (Fully Funded)

The Government of India is offering the Africa Scholarship through Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) under Africa Scholarship Scheme for Undergraduate, Postgraduate, M. Phil./Ph.D and Post-Doctoral Fellowship in various Indian Universities/Institutes.

At the inaugural plenary of the India – Africa Forum Summit held in New Delhi in April 2008, the Honorable Prime Minister of India announced the Government of India’s initiative to enhance the academic opportunities for students of African countries in India by increasing the number of scholarships for them to pursue under-graduate, post-graduate and higher courses.
The ICCR implements this scheme on behalf of the Ministry of External Affairs.

Under this Scheme, the Council offers 900 scholarships to the following countries:

Benefits:

The selected candidates would be provided with return economy class air fares to the nearest international airport and Air-Conditioned III Train fare to the place of study, if so required.
The selected students will be paid living allowance, contingent grant, house rent allowance and thesis expenses, as admissible under the rules of the ICCR.
Air ticket for journey from Home Country to India will be provided by the Embassy and return ticket will be provided to the scholar in India.

Now in its 11^th year, the Global Fellows Program is a 12-month fellowship for individuals dedicated to changing the way the world tackles poverty. Acumen is looking for potential social sector leaders who embody service above self. Leaders who take a systems change approach to the world’s biggest problems and have the moral imagination to effect long term change.

The Acumen Global Fellows Program is a full-time 12-month fellowship designed to train the next generation of social leaders who demonstrate service above self.

Requirements:

Acumen is looking for individuals dedicated to addressing the problems of poverty and who bring a blend of leadership capabilities and strong business skills that are relevant and translatable to building social businesses.
Leaders who are strong collaborators, are self-aware and adaptive. Leaders who are dedicated to addressing the problems of poverty and bring a blend of leadership capabilities and strong business skills to the table.
Acumen Fellows are a different kind of leader. And one day, they’re going to change the world.

Competitive applicants for the Global Fellows Program should meet the following criteria:

Demonstrated passion and commitment to creating positive social change
Proven track record of collaborative leadership and management responsibilities
Experience living and working in emerging markets
Grit, courage, and perseverance
A minimum of 4 years work experience
Strong business experience

Program Details:

The fellowship begins with eight weeks of training in the Acumen New York office, where Fellows build their understanding of the problems of poverty, the current tensions on the sector as we explore solutions and understand the role we have to play.
The 2 months are also an exploration and reflection on Self, Other, and System, requiring deep introspection, and a willingness to change our own values, beliefs, behaviors, before we can effect change in the world.
After training, each Fellow is placed with a company within Acumen’s ecosystem where they work on a key business challenge.
In the past Fellows have worked on projects ranging from leading operations of a new business unit at a cotton ginnery in Uganda, to leading operations at a coffee processing company in Rwanda, to building partnerships for a vocational skills training company in India.

Each year, the WISE Awards recognize and promote six successful innovative projects that are addressing global educational challenges. Since 2009, WISE has received more than 2,850 applications from over 150 countries.

The World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE), an initiative of QATAR FOUNDATION, invites applications for the 2016 WISE Awards.

The 2016 WISE Awards will identify, celebrate, and promote six innovative projects for their positive contribution to education and society. The Awards highlight initiatives found to be most creative and effective in finding solutions to education challenges at any level and in all environments. In bringing forward these models, WISE is helping build a network of recognized change-makers to inspire change in education.

Representatives of projects are invited to submit applications to demonstrate the nature and reach of their activities. Nominations of projects are also invited. Past winning projects have addressed a wide range of concerns and pursuits, including access to quality education, life-long learning opportunities, and the use of technology.

Today, 42 projects have been awarded, from a wide variety of sectors and locations for their innovative character, their positive contribution and their potential for scalability and adaptability. These projects represent a growing resource of expertise and sound educational practice.

Year by year, WISE is building a community of educational innovators which offers a fertile environment for groundbreaking collaborations. Today the WISE Awards network comprises pioneering projects that are helping bring real change to societies and communities.

Eligibility Requirements:

The 2016 WISE Awards submission procedure accepts both applications and nominations. Ongoing/existing education projects run by any type of organization

2 and from any part of the world can apply or be nominated for the WISE Awards.

Applications can only be for original works and original projects and must be submitted by a project representative working within the project.
All applicants must therefore guarantee that their organization, or they themselves, originated the project, and can not hold QATAR FOUNDATION liable for any action or claim from a third party with respect to the project submitted.
Nominations can be submitted by persons outside the organization running the project.
Nominators will be requested to identify themselves in the submission form; this information will be kept confidential by QATAR FOUNDATION.
Nominators may or may not request information from the project in order to best complete the nomination form

Selection Process:

Project representatives from any region, educational sector or level may submit applications which demonstrate the quality and impact of their activities in accordance with the criteria.
Following this global annual call for applications, a Pre-Jury composed of education experts assesses the submissions to select the Finalists.
Following this, a Jury bringing together leading personalities from the education world chooses the six Award winning projects. Winners receive global visibility along with a prize of $20,000 (US) and are honored at the annual WISE Summit.

2016/2017 Loughborough University Graduate School Development Trust Africa Scholarships for Study in the United Kingdom.

Loughborough University is delighted to announce full-fee scholarships for international full-time taught postgraduate students who are currently domiciled (permanently living) in Africa. These will be known as the Loughborough University Graduate School Development Trust Africa Scholarships.

The scholarships are being funded through a combination of generous external funding and University funds. The University will award a limited number of scholarships and the standards required are very high.

Students will be expected to fund their travel and maintenance costs through other sources. Evidence of maintenance funds must be included in the scholarship application.

Eligibility Criteria:

Applications will be initially shortlisted and the final decision on the awards will be made by a selection panel of senior staff of the University. The selection panel will use the following eligibility criteria when assessing applications:

Currently domiciled (permanently living) in Africa
Evidence of exceptional academic achievement (normally a 1st Class Honours Degree)
Commitment to return to their home country on completion of postgraduate programme
Evidence of the ability and commitment to making a significant contribution to their home country on their return
Full understanding of the costs involved in coming to study and live in the UK
Evidence of strong motivation and initiative to secure funds to cover the remainder of the costs involved

Scholarship Benefits

The scholarships will cover 100% of the course fees for your chosen postgraduate taught course for one year (replacing any Departmental or Loughborough University scholarships or bursaries you may already have been awarded).

Olam scholarships: creating a generation of change catalysts for Sub Saharan Africa

Olam International is a global agri-business listed and headquartered in Singapore, growing, sourcing and processing food ingredients and industrial raw materials such as coffee, cocoa, cashew and cotton for over 13,800 customers, including Nestle, Unilever and Mars.

In celebration of its 25^th anniversary, Olam has launched a postgraduate scholarship programme for nationals of Sub-Saharan Africa committed to catalysing change in their home country during their career. The four internationally acclaimed universities are: Harvard Business School, The London School of Economics and Political Science, INSEAD Business School and Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.

The OLAM Scholarship programme is aimed at fostering business management, leadership and governance across the continent by supporting aspiring and capable students to pursue higher education in an esteemed international institution. Through the scholarships and Olam mentoring, olam hopes to play its part in creating a generation of leaders who will contribute towards economic transformation, provide good governance, and act as change agents in their home country.

Eligibility Requirements:

Candidates must be nationals of Sub-Saharan Africa regardless of their current country of residence, and will need to demonstrate: academic achievement and promise; teamwork as well as personal ownership to deliver; leadership potential and entrepreneurial spirit; and a commitment to contributing to their country or region at the end of the course.
All applications will be assessed on merit by the individual partner universities.

The DREAM Project (with financial support granted by the European Commission through the Erasmus Mundus Programme) grants scholarships to students from ACP countries and staff members to undertake a mobility period, or full degree, in some of the best universities in Europe.

Program Structure:

The first physical part of the program will be held in Stockholm, during April 11-29, 2016. During this time SE Forum will provide the participants with workshops, lectures, mentorship and individual coaching which will focus on assessing and understanding the business opportunities and drivers .
The second physical part of the program takes place during September 5-23, 2016. The participants then travel back to Stockholm to spend another three weeks together.
During this time they will meet with their mentors, learn from each other’s experience and participate in workshops and coaching sessions built around business executions, all to ensure that they leave Stockholm with the skills and confidence required to scale up their social enterprises in the future.

In many parts of the world, local civil servants work under difficult circumstances. The communities for which they work are characterised by widespread poverty, a lack of basic services, high unemployment rates and environmental challenges. Moreover, their organisations often lack qualified staff and financial resources needed to deal with these challenges.

Still there are many young, ambitious civil servants that strive for better services and the development of their local communities. Talent for Governance supports them by providing opportunities for knowledge exchange and training so that they can develop their skills and realise their ambitions.

With a Talent for Governance scholarship, young talents at the local level increase their practical knowledge on topics such as management of waste or water, local economic development, municipal service delivery, citizen participation and accountability, fiscal decentralisation and local taxes, climate change and resilience, integrity and anti-corruption.

Eligibility:

Young civil servants working for local government in a developing country can apply for the Talent for Governance programme. They must have a strong motivation and a concrete project or idea to improve the performance of the organisation and create better services for their community.

Application is possible if you: work for a local government (not an NGO or private enterprise);

work in one of the countries listed on the DAC country list ;
be 37 years of age or younger when you apply;
have at least two years of work experience in local governance and prove your commitment to
work there for at least two years more;
speak and understand the English language well (all programmes are in English);
be able to write down and orally defend your motivation for and relevance of the specific programme;
be able to identify an issue/project as a real life case within the theme of the programme for which you will write a Back Home Action Plan during the Talent programme;
have written support of your employer to participate in the programme and to implement the Back Home Action Plan when you return home.

Encouraged by the success of the previous Africa-Europe Training Courses and the demand for capacity building opportunities expressed by youth leaders in the Africa-Europe Youth Co-operation, the North-South Centre will run the 11th edition of this programme. The course is organised in co-operation with the European Youth Forum, the Pan-African Youth Union and the Network of International Youth Organisations in Africa.
After last editions of the course held in Tarrafal, Cape Verde (2002, 2009); Mollina, Spain (2004); Coimbra, Portugal (2005, 2008) Almada, Portugal (2006), Polokwane, South Africa (2010) Mindelo, Cape Verde (2012, 2013) and Nairobi, Kenya (2014) this 11th Africa-Europe Training Course will be held 8 – 15 November 2015 in Nairobi, Kenya.
During the course, participants will develop competences and tools to strengthen their political participation in the context of the Africa-EU Strategic Partnership and develop competences for the capacity-building of their organisations as civil society actors in the development process.

The 11th AFRICA-EUROPE Training Course for Youth Organisations to be held between 8 November and 15 November 2015 Nairobi, Kenya In the framework of the 7th African University on Youth and Development.

The training course aims to:

strengthen the role of youth organisations as civil society actors and enable youth to organise and take action;
reinforce its political participation in Africa-Europe co-operation;
promote the global citizenship of young people in Europe and Africa.

The week-long course can accommodate up to 20 participants. Active participation and in-depth reflection are key features of the course. Participants will compare their approaches to youth work and youth participation, engaging in the implementation and evaluation of the programme with the team of trainers.
This Training Course is an opportunity given to youth leaders from Africa and Europe to share, better understand and integrate the objectives set at the international level in their work and contribute to their achievement. Some of these objectives (mentioned above) inscribed in the Africa-EU Strategic Partnership, help enable youth to take an active part in these strategies at the national and regional level and be further equipped to participate.

Profile of Participants

The participants in this course are representatives of youth organisations in Europe and Africa. European and African national and international youth organisations are invited to propose candidates for this course. The selection will be carried out by the North-South Centre in consultation with partners of the training course.

Approximately 50% of the participants in this course will come from youth organisations in Europe; the other half will come from youth organisations in Africa. Gender balance will be ensured in the selection process of the participants, as well as the balance between the type and/or nature of organisations.

Concerning participants and their profile:

should be a key multiplier playing an active role within a youth organisation, network or service at national or regional level, and plan to continue this work in the near future;
seeking gender balance;
diverse social and geographical background (including disadvantaged and minority groups);
aged between 18 and 30;
have already some qualification or experience in terms of international youth work;
be committed to attend the full duration of the course and be supported by a youth organisation or service;
be able to present the context of their work, their way of tackling problems, the challenges they meet;
be able to work and communicate in English/French.

Benefits:

The North-South Centre will do its best to issue a pre-paid ticket. In exceptional cases, participants might advance the booking of the international flight and reimbursement will be done fully or in an agreed amount.
It is expected that participants/background organisation support the expenses related with local transport in the home country, as well as visa and necessary vaccination costs.
The board and lodging for the full duration of the training course is covered by the North-South Centre (accommodation and meals). Participants will be accommodated in double/triple rooms.
There is no participation fee for this training course.

The Bielefeld Graduate School in History and Sociology (BGHS) awards up to six four-month start-up scholarships to international MA graduates who would like to pursue a doctoral degree in history, sociology, anthropology, or political science at the BGHS. Recipients receive the opportunity to prepare a persuasive proposal for a dissertation project. Subsequently, they may apply for the doctoral degree programme at the BGHS and/or for scholarships, doctoral positions and funding programmes in Germany or worldwide.

Requirements

Applicants should hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in sociology, history, political science, social anthropology or gender studies; applications from related disciplines are welcome.
Graduates from abroad who wish to pursue a doctoral degree in history, sociology, anthropology or political science may apply for a start-up scholarship.

Applicants should speak either German or English fluently.
Neither German nationals nor foreigners with a tertiary education from a German university may apply (Bildungsinländer/innen).
The start-up scholarships are meant to further networking with scientists at the BGHS, therefore no prolonged archival or research trips should take place during this period.

Scholarship Worth:

The scholarships will be awarded for the Summer Term of each year (1 April until 31 July) and include a stipend of EUR 1,200 per month. This amount will be supplemented by an allowance for children if applicable.
Upon application, travel costs can also be covered by the Graduate School. Moreover, the BGHS will offer a study programme tailored to the particular needs of international MA graduates.
Scholarship holders will participate in workshops on German academia as well as on writing a project description and will be supported intensively in finding a funding for their research project.

2017 United States of America (USA) Diversity Immigrant Visa Program (DV – 2017) – Live and Work in USA.

The congressionally mandated Diversity Immigrant Visa Program is administered annually by the Department of State. Section 203(c) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) provides for a class of immigrants known as “diversity immigrants” from countries with historically low rates of immigration to the United States. For Fiscal Year 2017, 50,000 Diversity Visas (DVs) will be available. There is no cost to register for the DV program.

Applicants who are selected in the program (“selectees”) must meet simple, but strict, eligibility requirements in order to qualify for a diversity visa. Selectees are chosen through a randomized computer drawing. Diversity visas are distributed among six geographic regions and no single country may receive more than seven percent of the available DVs in any one year.

For DV-2017, natives of the following countries are not eligible to apply, because more than 50,000 natives of these countries immigrated to the United States in the previous five years:

Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (mainland-born), Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Mexico,Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, South Korea, United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, and Vietnam.

The African Leaders of Tomorrow (ALT) Scholarship Program commemorates the late Nelson Mandela’s commitment to social justice and equity by supporting young African professionals to become leaders in public policy and administration.

The ALT Scholarship Program will grant scholarships to young African women and men to pursue a Master’s degree in public administration, public policy or public finances. Scholarships will be awarded based on merit to young professionals from sub-Saharan Africa. The Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) in collaboration with The Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC) will implement the ALT Scholarship Program with the objective of contributing to a strong and effective public sector in sub-Saharan Africa. Special consideration will be given to equitable representation across the continent and to the advancement of women leaders.

This program is undertaken with the financial support of the Government of Canada through the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD), and The MasterCard Foundation.

The ALT Scholarship Program has two components:

An academic component where the recipient of the scholarship will complete a one to two year Master’s level program in public administration, public policy or public finance at a Canadian university;

SINGA(Singapore International Graduate Award) is an award given to international students with excellent academic undergraduate and/or master’s results, and strong interest in doing research leading to a doctorate (PhD) in Science and Engineering at a Singapore University.

The students can choose to do their research work mainly at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU) or the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). The PhD degree will be conferred by either NUS, NTU or SUTD.

Under the SINGA, students will receive PhD training at their chosen lab at A*STAR Research Institutes or one of the three top universities in Asia – NUS, NTU or SUTD. Students will work in a multi-cultural environment, alongside distinguished and world-renowned researchers in state-of-the-art facilities.

The New Media Writing Prize showcases exciting and inventive stories that integrate a variety of formats, platforms, and digital media. This international prize is now in its 6th year. The Competition is organised by Bournemouth University Higher Education Corporation (“BU”) through The Media School.

The prize encourages and promotes the best in new media writing and is leading the way toward the future of the ‘written’ word and storytelling. In the past four years, the NMWP has attracted entries from the very best and most innovative writers in the field.

The New Media Writing Prize is looking for good storytelling (fiction or non-fiction) written specifically for delivery and reading/viewing on a PC or Mac, the web, or a hand-held device such as an iPad or mobile phone. It could be a short story, novel, poem, documentary or transmedia work using words, images, film or animation with audience interaction. Interactivity is a key element of new-media storytelling.

Anyone can apply! Whether you’re a student, a professional, an artist, a writer, a developer, a designer or an enthusiast, the competition is open to all.
It’s also an international competition, open to all outside the UK.

There are four categories/prizes for 2015 –

Effective use of interactive elements.
A great example of how new media can do things traditional media can’t.
The potential to reach out to a wide audience (i.e. not just specialist interest groups).

The Unilever Sustainable Living Young Entrepreneurs Awards were launched in 2013 to inspire and support the innovation and creativity of young people who are responding to the greatest global challenges facing us today.

The Unilever Sustainable Living Young Entrepreneurs Awards are one significant way UNILEVER wants to inspire action—that is why the search is on for young innovators aged 35 or under that have already begun to address the challenges at the heart of the Global Goals.

In partnership with the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL), and in collaboration with Ashoka, are looking for innovative and scaleable technologies or initiatives that are contributing to one or more of the eight Global Goals identified as most relevant to UNILEVERs’ business and entrepreneurs.

Eligibility Criteria:

The competition is open to individuals from any part of the world.
Applicants, or the the founder on whose behalf the applicant is applying, must be 18-35 years old at the time of entry.
Entrants are required to be the initiative’s founder, co-founder, or equivalent.
Initiatives must have grown beyond the conceptual stage—with the product, process, or enterprise already gaining traction among local communities or other markets.
Entries cannot be accepted from current Unilever employees.

- One winner will receive a €50,000 cash prize and will be awarded the HRH The Prince of Wales Young Sustainability Entrepreneur Prize at an event in London in Spring 2016 and €25,000 worth of support and mentoring.
The prize package includes funding, customised expert mentoring support, access to an online business development programme, a two-day accelerator workshop at the University of Cambridge, and networking with senior executives and sustainability leaders at Unilever’s headquarters.

The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) grants fellowships for international highly qualified PhD students and young post-doctoral researchers to pursue their research in Turkey in the fields of Natural Sciences, Engineering and Technological Sciences, Medical Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities.

The program aims to promote Turkey’s scientific and technological collaboration with countries of the prospective researchers. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate the potential to contribute significantly to Turkey’s goal of international cooperation in scientific and technological development.

Eligibility:

Applicants should be non-Turkish citizens. Applicants who hold dual citizenship with Turkey are not eligible to apply.
Applicants should have an invitation from the universities or research institutes in Turkey.
Applicants should certify that they have sufficient command of language to perform their research.
Applicants must be 35 years old or younger.
Applicants should be enrolled in a program in abroad for PhD students.

Fellowship Worth:

Maximum duration for the fellowship is 12 months.

A monthly stipend of 2.250 Turkish Liras.

2015/2016 United Nations University-WIDER PhD Internships in Helsinki, Finland (Fully Funded)

The UNU-WIDER PhD Internship Programme gives registered doctoral students an opportunity to utilize the resources and facilities at UNU-WIDER for their PhD dissertation or thesis research, and to work with UNU-WIDER researchers in areas of mutual interest.

PhD interns typically spend 3 consecutive months at UNU-WIDER and return to their home institution afterwards. During their time in Helsinki, PhD interns prepare one or more research papers and present a seminar on their research findings. PhD interns may also have the opportunity to publish their research in UNU-WIDER’s working paper series.

Selection criteria

Applicants must be enrolled in a PhD programme and have shown ability to conduct research on developing economies.
Candidates working in other social sciences may apply but should keep in mind that UNU-WIDER is an economics-focused institute.
Candidates should be fluent in oral and written English and possess good quantitative and/or qualitative analytical skills.
Preference is given to applicants who are living or working in developing countries and who are at later stages of the PhD.

Scholarship Worth:

UNU-WIDER provides a travel grant, medical insurance (for medical and hospital services resulting from sickness and accident during your stay at UNU-WIDER), and a monthly stipend of EUR 1,600 to cover living expenses in Helsinki during the period of their internship.The programme does not cover expenses related to dependents.

The IBM Ph.D. Fellowship Awards Program is an intensely competitive worldwide program, which honors exceptional Ph.D. students who have an interest in solving problems that are important to IBM and fundamental to innovation in many academic disciplines and areas of study.

These include: computer science and engineering (including cyber security, cloud, and mobile computing), electrical and mechanical engineering, physical sciences (including chemistry, material sciences, and physics), mathematical sciences (including analytics of massive scale data with uncertainty, operations research, and optimization), public sector and business sciences (including urban policy and analytics, social technologies, learning systems and Cognitive Computing), and Service Science, Management, and Engineering (SSME).

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Students must be nominated by a doctoral faculty member and enrolled full-time in a college or university Ph.D. program.
The faculty member is encouraged to contact an IBM colleague prior to submitting the nomination to assure mutual interest.
Outside of Europe and Russia, students must have completed at least one year of study in their doctoral program at the time of their nomination

Program scope

The IBM Ph.D. Fellowships are awarded worldwide.
IBM Ph.D. Fellows are awarded a stipend for one academic year.
Fellowships vary by country/geographic area, and the students will be informed at the time of the award what the value is for their country/geographic area.
All IBM Ph.D. Fellows are matched with an IBM Mentor according to their technical interests, and they are strongly encouraged to participate in at least one internship at IBM while completing their studies.
Interns are paid by their host site and will be subject to the prevailing terms and conditions of the internship program at that site.
After receiving an award, an Award Recipient may be renominated the following year for consideration to receive another IBM Ph.D. Fellowship, based on the Award Recipient’s continued exceptional academic standing, progress and achievement, and sustained interaction with IBM’s technical community.
A student may compete annually and be awarded a maximum of three years.
IBM requests that a maximum of two nominations per department be submitted, in addition to any renewal nominations.

Ashoka’s Youth Venture is pleased to partner with the University of Connecticut and its “Study of the U.S Institute” (SUSI Program 2015) to support the Student Leaders from North and Sub-Saharan Africa to be Social Entrepreneurs.

After 5 weeks of intense learning in the U.S. the African students are ready to launch their own social ventures to support the development of their communities. Youth Venture will assist SUSI participants in this process.

The students already have identified social challenges that they want to address in their communities, they have strong passions and talents to be changemakers.

Eligibility Requirements:

The challenge is open to all individuals, organizations, and partnerships, including non-profit, for-profit, and public organizations.
Entries may should be specific and well-planned, whether they are new ideas or established strategies with proven impact.
Entries must be submitted in English.

Benefits:

After 5 weeks of intense learning in the U.S. the African students are ready to launch their own social ventures to support the development of their communities. Youth Venture will assist SUSI participants in this process.
Submit a complete version of your Action Plan and receive seed funding to implement your idea.

Assessment Criteria:

Winners of the challenge will be those that have submitted a written description of a project, invention, solution and/or initiative which, in the opinion of the judges of the challenge, best meets all of the following criteria:

Innovation
Social Impact
Sustainability

C&A Foundation/Ashoka Changemakers Fabric of Change: Innovating for a Sustainable Apparel Industry Challenge ( €100,000 Prize)

C&A Foundation and Ashoka Changemakers have launched Fabric of Change: Innovating for a Sustainable Apparel Industry, an online challenge that seeks innovations for building a fair and sustainable apparel industry. Winners will receive prizes totaling more than €100,000 to support their solutions.

C&A Foundation and Ashoka Changemakers want your innovations for transforming the fashion industry. The Solutions should be systems-changing ideas including (but not limited to) those that:

Address workers’ rights, working and living conditions, and the livelihoods of farmers supplying the fashion industry;
Advance environmentally responsible materials, production methods, and supply chain processes;
Incentivize collaboration between brands, manufacturers, supply chain partners, and governments;
Promote transparency and mutual accountability between stakeholders;
Empower consumers to drive change;
Adapt models from other sectors to solve key problems in the apparel value chain.

Eligibility Requirements:

The Fabric of Change challenge is open to all individuals, organizations, partnerships, not-for-profits, for-profits, and charities from any country. C&A and C&A Foundation employees are not eligible to enter the challenge.

Benefits

More than €100,000 in total prizes will be awarded to the winners to test, refine, or scale their solutions. They will join a network of social entrepreneurs, experts, and leaders committed to innovating for a more sustainable fashion industry.
All challenge finalists will receive a travel stipend to attend the Fabric of Change Summit to be held in the Spring of 2016.

Prize:

One Grand Prize winner will receive €50,000. Two additional winners will each receive €20,000
Two Early Entry Prizes of €1,000 each will be selected from the entries received by the Early Entry deadline, 21 October 2015
Three Young Innovator Prizes will be awarded to social innovators under the age of 24. Details to be announced shortly
All Finalists (approximately 10 – 12 individuals representing each Finalist entry) will receive a travel stipend to attend the Fabric of Change Summit

Youth Changemaker Prizes:

Two Youth Changemaker Prizes will be awarded to the most innovative ideas to create a sustainable apparel industry.

Winners will be invited to attend and participate in the Change Summit to be held in Spring 2016. Each will receive a stipend to cover the cost of travel. Entrants must be between the ages of 18 – 24 as of November 18, 2015.
Winners who are minors in their country of residence as of April 2016, will be required to obtain written parental permission to attend the Summit.
Selection of winners will be made by Ashoka staff and be evaluated based upon the criteria for the challenge of Innovation, and potential for social Impact.
Idea stage entries are encouraged.
Winners will be notified prior to, but publicly announced at the Summit, in April 2016.

Youth Blogger Prize:

The Fabric of Change Challenge will award one passionate blogger with a stipend of $1,000, plus a travel stipend to the Fabric of Change Summit, to be held in the spring of 2016 (location TBA).

The Mo Ibrahim Foundation in association with SOAS and the Centre of African Studies-

University of London is organising a Residential School 21-25 March 2016 in Marrakech, Morocco on the topic of ‘Governance and Development in Africa’.

The residential school is for 20 participants who are policy makers, academics, researchers

or civil society representatives from any African country who will gain, through this training, new ideas and knowledge on the broad issue of governance and development.

Eligibility:

Applicants should have at least a MSc degree in areas related to Governance or 5 years professional experiences in fields relevant to the theme of Governance and Development in Africa.
The official language of the School is English

Benefits

All costs for successful applicants, including economy flights, visa costs,accommodation and meals,will be covered. No per diem.
